Streaming Dreambox to Internet (the easy way)

I followed many a tutorial and i still had problems. Eventually i got it working perfectly and even better than various tutorials describe, as i can change channel on the dbox remotley and the stream changes to that channel... Also this method is far simpler as you only need VLC! And the and this is how:

If you are using a router, and don't have a static IP, get yourself a domain setup.
Ports to forward on your router to your PC that will be running VLC -> 8080
Ports to forward on your router to your Dreambox IP -> 80 (and possibly 21 - not essential, only for FTP)

Initially i had the Gemini image, but for streaming I personally find the latest PLi images is thousands better for streaming so i flashed that!

Open vlc player -> open network stream -> select HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS -> enter http://IP.of.Dreambox:31344

Tick "Stream/Save" and go to settings -> tick HTTP and type in the IP address of the PC that will be running VLC and the port (8080)

Choose your stream settings (these will depend on available bandwith) and click select all elemntary streams. My setup is MPEG1 - Video codec x264 at 512 kb/s - Audio MP3 64 kb/s 1 channel

On your other system/handheld or whatever, open network stream in VLC or any other decent player and enter your domain/static IP:8080 (or port that you setup on your router for your PC)

Now your VLC will stream your dreambox channel. If you change the channel remotely through enigma, the stream will also change channel... far better than only being able to watch one channel that you have chosen from dream stream.

to change channel, just ener you domain/staic IP in a browser, and you will be faced with the enigma page!

    WOW!!!

And thats the problem. The method works but everyones pc's are different, codecs are different, routers are different, internet speeds are different.....

The only way to solve is to understand the method, change your settings to suit, and manually tweek until it works.
    Too many variables .

i struggled to get it to stream over my lan without the picture looking pixelized and breaking up

i think the easiest way for me to do this is plug dm500s into my tv card in the pc and do it like that!

Re: Streaming Dreambox to Internet (the easy way)

i dont see why everyone has issues, i have now installed 3 different dreamboxes for my family and friends and this works everytime. The difference is the PLI image. If i use a gemini image, the streaming is crap... infact 8 times out of 10 it doesnt work at all...!!!

The PLI image with the old frame buffer works a treat everytime - you will need the old frame buffer release if you have pixlation issues!

Dreamview / dreamstream are all crap... just use vlc and open network http://dreambox.IP:31344 and it will start to stream your dream

or when you install vlc, tick the mozilla firefox and active x plugin , and then just use webxtv! (if you use firefox that is... which you should )

One thing that hinders streaming is also firewalls. Just make sure that your dreambox is not blocked by your firewall.
