Dreambox 500s

Hi guys
Can anybody help me with this problem
After flashing the box with the DW2.0 Image i selected automatic transponder scan
and get this message Fatal Error Loading networks
About to give up

You cannot use the DW 2.0 image with satellite box. It is only designed for cable, reflash it with another image like gemini 4.20.

How does one get the gemini 4.20 image

after 20 posts u can get it from downloads m8

or from google

kierankiely before you start flashing another image, try copying this satellites.xml file to /var/etc and reboot the box.

Try doing another scan now.

DW v2 was never test on satellite but theoretically it should work. The only thing that I can think of is that the satellites.xml file is missing.

DW 2.0 does work with the satellite box, I just loaded the captains settings to save myself time and it fired up fine. I could only load one cam on it as it not a maxvar image. I quite like the backup image feature. Without being too cheeky DF any chance of you letting us have the scripts for the backup image and services and telling us where to copy them to use with other DM500 images?

Have a look in /var/bin m8. Always has been openly available.

They probably won't work on any other image from within a menu. But if you run the command in a telnet session it will do the same thing.

No it can't. No emu on it's will do that.

I think you can use newcs to run your subscribed card in the dreambox but not sure. Digidude will be able to confirm.

Im sure it need's to be put back in a sly receiver every 4 weeks or so to get the card updated..

NewCs and MGcamD will work with a valid NDS card, with no need to put it into a sky digibox. its even possible to remotely update the card, for example, you have a dreambox 500 with the sly card in it in a cupboard connected directly to your router, then you also have 4 other dreamboxes connected (1 each in 3 bedrooms and one in living room) even though the one with the card in has no connection to a dish, any one of the other 4 will relay the 'stay alive' signal through your network to the box with the card in, and keep everything up to date.

however, if you want to change your package then the card WILL have to be put into a sky box to recieve the activation update, but to downgrade your package you dont have to

google it.

Hi Devilfish - thanks for this piece of information. I was getting exactly the same error message and it was doing my head in!! After loading satellites.xml into var/etc I am happily scanning the Astra satellite (took alot of reading to figure out I needed to scan the Astra 28.2 E satellite). I have a quick question for ya - should I upgrade to the Gemini image or stick with what I have got.

I am Pli fan when it comes to the cable but when it comes to cams I find the Pli guiys arfe a bit slow updating their addon server. I use a Gemini image for the satellite box it is very stable but also because their addon server is always up to date. The Gemini team put a block for clones on the Gemini 4.30 so if you are going to upgrade I would go for Gemini 4.31 as they removed the block unless you have a genuine box .
