i have a static caravan on the east coast and i want to put a dreambox , starview or something similar. could anyone recommend what dish and lnb would be needed and which receiver would you also recommend. nothing to expensive as will be left for long periods of time when not using caravan. any help advice would be greatful

I personally dont think a dreambox is suited to a caravan. Unless you have broadband internet there i think it is pointless.
To advise a better sat receiver & dish we would need to know what kind of tv you are looking to receive?

i thought you could get a satelite version of the dreambox, tv channels to receive would be things like boomerang, disney, maybe movies and sport

you can get a satellite version m8 but what pinkys saying is that you wont get any more channels on a dreambox than you would on a TM1500 or similar without the use of a interenet connection.

to get movies, sport disney and such on 28.2 (sky's satellite) you'll need an official card, but at the min premiere is open,so is tps(13e),digitv(1w) these all show sports, films(language can be changes to english on most) kids and hard core porn.

have a look at www.lyngsat.com for channels on those packages.

as for a dish i'd go for a 70cm raven dish, looks like a sky minidish just slightly bigger and you can get a decent 0.2db lnb for a few quid.

hope this helps m8

i may be getting it all wrong then. i thought i could get something like a dreambox or dbox or starview satelite versions and pick up things like disney, boomerang and discovery channels. i was told i wouldnt get sky movies or sport, but others were available. i am very new to the satelite side of things as you may of gathered and a bit confused on what to buy. as long as i can get boomerang for my daughter as she loves scooby doo and boomerang show it nearly all day everyday

have a look here m8 http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/premiere.html

that is the package premiere a german package quite similar to our uk sky,but better in my eyes;)

if you look at TP11876 H you will see a few kids channels like boomerang and disney i'm sure the language can be selected to english by the remote on these channels (will double check in the morning for you as wife got the tele;)). this package is currently 'hacked' so wont cost you a monthly subscription, but beware as with any 'hacked' package they could go off at any time.

i know tps on hotbird (13e) defo has boomerang that can be listened to in english and is currently 'open'

if i were you i'd buy a technomate for ease of use and overall support and will get you the same amount of channels as a dreambox/dbox without a internet connection.

go for a TM1500 or newer 5200 m8

thanks for the info. i think i will go for the TM1500 or 5200 as i have seen these on fleabay quite cheap.
and i will let you know in a few weeks how i get on.
one other thing, is there a piece of equipment i can use to get the dish in the right position.

i have been looking at the tm 5200. do they all come with a multi card reader or is this optional and i have also noticed that some of them are patched, what does patched mean?

the 5200 does not have a card reader, but one can be added as an optional extra, this WONT read a sky card, but will read cards for other providors if you wanted to subscribe to a european providor (which quite a few of us do)

patched means the box has the latest 'hacks' loaded onto them to open some channels for free, however, it is illegal for a supplier to sell a box patched, but it is very simple for you to do using nothing more than a USB memory stick

if a box is patched, does this do away with cams. only asking as i have seen a box for sale which is patched and also says it has 5 cams installed, but i cant see how they could be installed, as dont these need to plug into a common interface

'multi-cam' as in more than one, just means that its software based to provide several abilities with just one card-reader. You dont actually physically plug any bit of hardware into the machine you just 'patch' the software/firmware which enables the inbuilt cam to do more (like read all sorts of cards).

Before you spend money cosso1, think about how you are going to get latest softcam keys at your caravan when they change? What happens when Premiere changes cards soon and is no longer hacked? Will you have a pc at the caravan so that you can keep your box firmware updated with the changes? Are you going to use a large dish with a motor on the back and will this be acceptable on the caravan park? I'm just mentioning these things incase you havent thought about it fully.

thanks for the above and no i dont think the park would like me having a large motorised dish.
krazylegz mentions premiere, tps and digitv, so if premiere is changing. would i be able to get tps or digitv and would it need to be patched to receive them? sorry for all the questions, but if i go out and buy a technomate and it doesnt do what the missus expects it to do, she will probably kill me

the latest patch works for the providers i mentioned m8 but you will need to move your dish as premiere is on 19e,tps on 13e,digi tv on 1w.

it's not hard to move tho my bro live in caravans all over the counrty and moves his all the time, just a pain in the arse if it's lashing down lol

well thanks to everyone above. i am going to get the technomate 5200 and hope all goes well.
