Folks,

I finally decided to upgrade my DM800SE with the addition of a WD 2.5" 500GB Blue internal hdd, however after fitting it my box won't start. The motherboard lights come on, the drive sounds like it is attempting to spin up but the OLED display remains blank and nothing happens. I'm using Rat's latest DW image. When I remove the hdd the box boots normally. I've hooked the drive up to a pc to ensure it's working and formatted as exFAT but it didn't make any difference. Any ideas?

I'm thinking this is most likely a hardware problem with the cradle connection due to the inferior clone build quality...

Thanks

It could be not enough power for the dm and hdd to run at same time, try another power supply, i couldnt get a hdd working in my dreambox no mater what i tryed

I agree with the above it sounds like a possible weak PSU the power needed by the HDD making the PSU crap out.

I agree PSU issue, I have the same on my DM800. Normally get around if by unplugging for about 5 seconds and trying again, sometimes several attempts are needed.

Just to follow up, after trying numerous psus to no avail I purchased a caddy that takes power from a second usb port and I am successfully running it off of a powered usb hub as you suggested and now I can record match of the day when I'm out at the pub! lol I guess the clones can be a little hit and miss when it comes to quality...

:)

For what its worth, it ended up taking the hdds outta all my dm and putting in usb pen, quieter, quicker and better all round.

both mine have hard drives installed never had an issue with them and have changed images a couple of times and all recordings still work.
