If you have read my other threads you will realize that I had major issue with a box I had bought. I have finally given in and bought another box. All seems to be working fine, (well a few channels break up a lot with low SNR and high BER values - I am going to re-cut my F Connectors tomorrow to see if this helps)

The strange problem I have is that my signal disappears if I dont have my Sly box turned on.

Therefore to get it to work, I have to have 1 cable connected to my Sly box with the box turned on in order for the Dreambox to get the signal.

I have had a play about with Tuner settings but non seem to make a difference.

I have also noticed, that some channels on the dreambox, only work when the sky box is on a certain channel.

Has anyone ever had any experience of this?

I guess that the Dreambox isnt powering the LNB. Do you agree, and if so, do you know if this can be rectified?

Cheers
Dan

I don't have any splitters, just 2 direct lines from the LNB.

the LNB, is the one sky mount? if is so buy a new universal lnb dual , and will work...

It is a standard Sky Dish and LNB. Do you have any idea why it would have this problem with this particular box?

Are you talking from experience? What would the difference be with a universal LNB?
I just had a thought, is it possible that they have sent me a cable version of the box and not a satellite version??

This could be the tuner on the 800 has no voltage and is somehow taking power from the skybox via the lnb. Other thing is that port on the LNB is on its wayout so try another port on the lnb.

You need to check the voltage at the tuner fconnector output with a multi meter

I have just checked the voltages coming out of the tuner, Horizontal is 17.66V and Vertical is 12.81V. Comparing these to my sky box and the other dreambox I have, they are 18.11V/13.35V and 18.68V/13.71V respectively.
That is with my tuner settings on Simple, Single, Send DiSEqC - No and Tone Amp 800mV.

Do you think this slight drop in voltage is causing the LNB not to power? Thats the only thing I can think of??

Minimal drop in voltage, it,s usually a drop in amperage with the dm tuners that cause issues.

I have just checked the currents. If I am reading the multimeter correct, on the sky box I get H 0.2A and V 0.23, and the dreambox, H 0A and V 0.2A. H having 0 seems strange. and the V is similar to the sky box. Therefore I would understand if the box worked on V but not H, but this is not the case.

I wonder what difference a Universal LNB would make as another poster told me to buy??

With only the DMM connected to the dish nothing else you have no signal at all ?

Correct, nothing at all without another unit connected to the LNB. I will try at someone else's house tomorrow again to rule out the LNB. But I can't see it being the problem TBH.

the lnb and the receiver that s*y use is a different technology is made to support 2 tuner at same time....if you just ghange the lnb will be all right...just try ciao

Thanks for your reply. Is there a specific LNB you suggest??

I've had a look and my current LNB says skyware universal sx719 having a quick look on eBay and have seen a 'SHARP UNIVERSAL QUAD LNB 40mm' do you think this will do the job??
Thanks
Dan

i think is good look how many db is it, should be no more than 2 db ..and do not spend more than 20 euro .... does not change lot

Thanks for that, the one I was looking at didn't have the noise level. I have had another look and found this one. Think I will get this one. What do you think??

DICOM PROFESSIONAL USE

Universal Ku Quad LNBF

Dvb-S2 Compliant
High L.O. Stability
High X-Polar Isolation
Low Consumption

Linear Polarization 40mm Lnbf
Input: 10.70Ghz-12.75Ghz
L.O.: 9.75Ghz/10.60Ghz
Noise Figure: 0.1DB

Thanks again
Dan

Changed my LNB and although my picture does seem a bit better it still has the same problem. Still won't power the LNB on its own!!
