Hey guys I was downstairs and have just came back up to my dreambox powered off. I unplugged the power and plugged in back in and it was making a clicking noise and just flashing the dreambox logo. I unplugged it again left it a minute then plugged it back in and now the red light flickers and then goes off. Nothing happening on the box at all. I'm thinking maybe a power supply problem?

I have 2 spare power supplies from Tivo boxes but they say 12v 3.34A and the dreambox one is 12v 3A. Would it be safe to try the tivo power supply or not? I'm iffy about it incase it damages my box.

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers.

HDD normally makes clicking noise when fecked.
But not sure on power supply tbh.

Just took the plunge and tried the Tivo power supply and its fired up. I though the HDD too mate but I disconnected that and it was the same. Really weird how its just randomly died lol.

Cheers.

a 2amp power supply will operate dreambox ok

wouldnt say do it long term

I done a bit of reading online and it said that as long as the volts are the same the higher amps on the tivo power supply should be fine as the dreambox will only draw 3amps from the 3.34amps the tivo supply has so hopefully there should be no issues. Saves me having to buy a new power supply lol. The joys of owning chinese clones.

Cheers :)

All is well now I've replaced the power supply. My box was turning itself on and off rapidly like it was stuck in a on-off power loop. Now using a samsung psu from a tiv0 box and its working great. Should last aswell unlike the chinese clone ones you get with the DM lol.

Cheers. :)

Mine was the same switched power supply all is well

Your 3.34A supply is actually a better bet than the original. The box will only draw the current (amps) it needs, so even if it was a 100A supply, so long as the voltage is 12V, the box will still draw the same current. Your new 3.34A supply won't be working as hard to supply the box so should therefore run cooler and hopefully last longer.
As you've nothing to lose, why not crack open the dead one & see if you can see what went wrong? The usual culprits are (1) sick capacitors (usually swollen or even leaking), (2) blown switching IC (hole in top or top blown off), (3) open-circuit start-up resistor (impossible to tell by looking) or sometimes it's as simple as a blown mains fuse- again hard to tell by looking if it's the soldered-in type. In case it's (3), leave it at least overnight after unplugging from mains as the main smoothing cap can hold 300+ volts, not very pleasant for the unsuspecting!

I use the powersupply from the dm 800hs pvr for different boxes dm 500 dm500hd dm600 dm800pvr vu solo2...
The new dm tuner is about 2 a 3DB sensitiver , I don't know if it is a original part.
