The bootloader is similar to a bios on a pc it contains basic instructions to get the box to boot.
It can be upgraded what is your sim type and what bootloader version are you on at the moment.

You can upgrade yes but you do not state the sim type your box uses !
Well you would need to flash the 84d bootloader first just like you would if it was a image by browser, flashing takes seconds and then flash a 84d image.

the bug after scoring the web boot, restart and I get error dreambox no ca found,'ve gotten new image with dreamup and still receive the error that I do wrong
You used the wrong bootloader for your sim. It needed to be sim2 84d
Use enforcer or optiflasher to recover.
I'm trying to flash my DM800 HD PVR with an old CVS+GP3 image.
I have already upgraded my bootloader for newer images.
Do you think I'll need to "downgrade" it in order to do so?

You should just be able to flash the image if your going backward through the ssl versions.
It wont do any harm to flash the same ssl as the image before and after but it is not needed.
