Hi All.

Initially may I say a warm welcome to all of you as this is my first posting on this forum. I have been following all the posting with great interest about the Sunray clone over the last few months. On that note, I would like to say a big “thank you” to gsmtech as it was his initial posting about his reviews of the Sunray 800HD SE which got me motivated to purchase one direct from China. Having placed the order on Friday I received it the following Wednesday. A great piece of kit arrived and when it was working had a fantastic picture and sound. Yep, her indoors was best pleased with me and my endeavors spending our hard-earned cash on something from China.

However – Being rather new to all this, and like an idiot, I was going through all the downloads available and when it said, “upgrade” I thought why not, after all what could possibly happen!

Those that are reading this and are a lot cleverer than me will already know how this delightful tale ends. I now have nothing but R01: NO CA FOUND on my LCD display and that’s it. I presume all is not lost but now the million-dollar question – In very basic idiot non computer literate language – could some kind soul please guide me through on how to get this neat piece of kit up and running again.

If it’s any help I have the version 4 unit with the USB on the front and the flash up button on the back. I would be grateful if someone could shed some light my way before her indoors gets on the soapbox again!

Thanks in advance.
Regards.

Look in the downlaods section and obtain the Clone Dm800SE recovery pack. You need a Mini-USB cable and SunRay flashup.

- Connect the USB, Ethernet cable to router, and BEFORE switching on box start SunRay flashUP. Hit connect. It should in remote IP address field show you an IP address.

- Open a web browser on your PC and navigate to the IP address shown in FlashUP. You will presented with the Bootlaoder flash page allowing you to flash the image.

- At this stage again, look in dowloads and pick a image WHICH already has SSL Bootloader 84a integrated. Flash this image from the browser then reload the box.

post states its the version 4 unit with the full USB on the front and the flash up button on the back. dont think there is software out yet to utilize the flashup button on the back of the box. if you dont have a mini-usb cable, can also try just attaching Ethernet cable to dhcp router then while pressing power button on front of box, turn power switch on at back of box. oled should stop and dispaly the box's dhcp ip address to type into web browser to access web interface and flash image from there.

Hi All.

Thanks very much for responding to my post. Having received your reply and being pointed in the right direction for the required downloads I am currently intalling ramiMAHER+blackhole-dm800se.nfi. I really appreciated the laymen’s terms for the instructions as being ‘new’ to the Dreambox environment some of the techno lingo within a lot of these posting is well beyond me.

I did have initial teething problem getting my computer to talk to the box – windows kept asking me if I wanted to check for software for the DM800HDSE. I wasn’t sure if this was a good thing so I aired on the side of caution and said no. Out of frustration and 3hrs later, I ticked yes, it added a coms port to the list, and then it all seemed to work fine with the mini USB connection.

Currently I get these messages in the sim4 500HD 800SE 800 V1.3.3.7 Sunray DreamUP:

14:22:40 box type: DM800SE
14:23:57 Calculating checksum...
14:23:58 Uploading file to box...
14:35:08 box is flashing from its memory...

I dare not disconnect the box but is been flashing from its memory for a rather long time. How long should this take?

Thanks again for the assistance.
Regards.

If its only flashing from the com port and not the ethernet lead as well then it can take upto an hour and a half m8

Fantastic – Thanks for that. I’ll leave it alone and go and have a cupa before I do something I’ll regret!
I did try to utilize the earthnet connection but couldn’t figure out how to get the IP address from the box so everything would talk to each other. Even when I followed the above procedure of holding in the front power button etc, nothing was displayed. Still, as long as the mini USB is doing its thing then all is well.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

any luck? This thread is like east enders lol
Hi again.
Well East Enders it is!

Having been rather pleased with one’s self and blabbing to her indoors about how clever I was – The “box” is still flashing from its memory 5½hrs later. Now obviously I’m no expert, but I thinks there be something wrong Captain!

I presume I won’t do any harm by unplugging, turning off and starting from the scratch? Currently I am in two minds about drop kicking it out the window.

I can’t believe it is this difficult to get to watch TV!

Thanks (again)

lol 5 1/2 hours is a bit too long alright m8,
start again but first try getting the ip addy again by holding in the button while booting up the box, just watch the oled screen and as soon as it says stop let go and there should be an ip addy there,

if not retry the com port way again

They say a picture is worth a thousand words - I can see this thing ending up on Ebay!

I might call it a day with this thing as I have wasted nearly a day with it and am no further forward - or wiser!

Found this on another forum, may be of some use, maybe?

Box connected to your Laptop via USB.
Ethernet cable connected to your Router (DHCP enabled)

1a. Start DreamUP_1_3_3_8 and tick "Use Network". Also choose correct Serial Port (mine was COM18).

1b. I also had this problem: "too much data (or bad sectors) in partition 1 (end: 00040000, pos: 00040000)". If you have that you also must choose "recover bad sectors" in the "Extras" menu in Dreamup.

2. Press the "Connect" button in Dreamup.

3. Start your box and wait a few seconds (flash-loader should be transfered to the Dreambox and you should see something like HTTP or LAN connected) . If all works well you should see the IP adress of the box in the LCD (DM800se).

4. DON'T PUSH THE FLASH BUTTON !!!

5. Launch your preferred browser and type in the IP of the Dreambox.

6. Run the firmware-upgrade via
your browser. Use the original firmware for your box,
reboot the Dreambox.

Hi All.
I am starting to feel slightly retarded here – Having tried all the Port:coms (which I have 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 & 9) none works with the earth net cable. When I connect with the mini USB cable I get an added port of 21 which is only there when I have the mini USB cable connected. When I use the mini USB cable I get as far as the box is flashing from its memory and hangs there indefinitely. I have tried having both cables connected but get a message like YOU CAN NOT PING THE BOX WITH THE SERIAL CABEL CONNECTED AT THE SAME TIME.

I have nothing else connected to my router; the IP addresses are correct and still nothing. The only difference is that I have Sunray Dream upV1.3.3.7 compared to V1.3.3.8 which I downloaded from this forum as per the above post. I’ve tried turning off and on firewalls and even a different router all with no joy. I am sure I am doing something fundamentally and stupidly wrong where an 8 year old could sort it out in 30 seconds but me – well I’m buggered if I know! I have absolutely no idea as to how to make the box and my computer talk to each other so I can flash it. The box doe's (did) work when I got it as per my orginal post. The only thing left is to spray gallons of WD40 on it as that seems to work on my car just fine!

Surley it can't be this difficult!
Sorry to be a pain but any other suggestions?:questionmark:

Cheers.

Have now tried it with DreamUP V1.3.3.8 - Still nothing!

If this is a 800SE SIM 2.1 Clone, ONLY use SunRay Flashup not DreamUP. Do NOT use the flash button in FlashUP, use the remote IP addrress and flash via web browser it's faster and more reliable.

Hi gsmtech.
My apologies to everyone for rabiting on asking for help with my Sunray Clone and I am sure the novelty of this is really starting to wear thin but if it’s any use – No matter what buttons I hold in at power up to get the IP address as discribed in a previous post nothing happens but a couple of seconds of the color screen with the DREAM logo then the dreaded R01: NO CA FOUND.

I cannot see the box ANYWHERE on my system via an earthnet cable. I do get it as far as to have it recognized with the mini USB cable with Dreamup Sunray; it calculates the checksum and then uploads the new file image to the box. It then tells me the box is flashing from its memory. After 10hrs, it’s still sitting there “flashing” from its memory – obviously with something wrong.

I have no problem with the time factor using a mini USB cable as I am aware that it takes a lot longer compared to an earthnet connection. But for the life of me I have absolutely no idea as to how or what I need to do or more to the point, what am I doing wrong! I have downloaded the files as listed on this forum including the new images as suggested by your good self, I have trolled the internet for hours trying to find a solution on other forums and I am still no better off than day one. I am at a point where I am willing to try ANYTHING which will get this up and running. I still can’t believe it is this difficult as there are so many Sunray DM800HD se clones out there surely someone, somewhere must have encountered this before? Especially not being able to see it on the network – why I can see it anywhere is beyond me.
Regards.

Just a thought m8 when you connect the USB cable to the pc make sure your box is off before you connect the cable to the box. The when you open the sunray flash up software and tick use network, enter the ip of your PC. As you dont know the ip of your box try using an ip address one up from your PCs IP, ie if you PCs ip is 192.168.1.1 then put 192.168.1.2 in to the box IP field. Click connect and the software will ask you to turn on your box, See if it flashes from that point. Good Look. I should add if there are any other devices on your network turn them all off and restart your router with them all off and leave the off till your done.

just a thought, I also had a problem wth com port, try this (with you mini usb cable connected), goto on your laptop/pc, control panal> device manager>ports(com & ltp) select your cable connecton eg standerd serial over usb (or something like that)> clck to open it.> click the port tab.>advanced>com port number ( you can change this to one thats available

goto your dreamup software and select the com port you selected on your laptop/pc....hope this helps

Hi i have flashed over 7 images over the last week and had lots of problems, but i have never had any problems by just pressing the FLASH button and then load the image,i tried it once with my dm800se(sunray) box using the option network button ticked, only difference i noticed was the time taken to flash the box, if it was me i would start from the beginning flash ssll84 bootloader then the image you want to use without restarting the box, only reboot box after you have flashed bootloader and image. Hope this helps!

Hopefully you got this sorted but i had to do it for the first time tonight.

I downloaded the things in post one and also the dreamboxuk image.

I installed the drivers from cp210x

connected my box by miniusb and crossover cable to my laptop and switched it on.

I then opened up sunray-up and hit connect until i got the connection prepared now switch on the dreambox, the network values should have populated aswell.

I switch off the box and back on and let it do its checks. I then press flash and choose the image to load, once this has flashed, dont reboot, press flash again and select the sim2se_ssl82 and flash this. Once this is finished i select disconnect then unplug the mini usb and crossover cable from the dreambox, power off completely and restart.

This is what worked for me.

Hi All.

Well having returned from work – where I spoke to an IT bloke and he suggested I do a hard reset of the router. I thought this was rather odd as I had done a reset as mentioned in a previous post. So I did a hard reset (total reset including reinstalling all the ISP information etc) and bugger me – A now talks to B and hey presto!

I used the Sunray flash up and installed ramiMAHER-v20-dm800se-9-25-2011.nfi and off we went. Although it works I have had the dreaded green screen a couple of times when I went to install a USB for the picons and EPG so I think there might be something amiss. Just to confirm I:

1/plugged mini USB lead into box.
2/inserted earthnet cable
3/started Sunray flash up
4/powered up box
5/inserted box IP address into web browser
6/got the flash up page on screen
7/selected ramiMAHER-v20-dm800se-9-25-2011.nfi
8/installed
9/disconnected and rebooted box.

Now as I mentioned I have had a few probs with it crashing and not wanting to play with the USB. I also can’t seem to find any utility to uninstall adons on this image? Not sure if its operator trouble or if there just isn’t one.
– Here’s the question though, should I have “flashed it” again or flashed it with something else (Boot loader) after I had finished or done something else/different?
I am hoping that I have installed it correctly as it is working (of sorts) but I am concerned that when I go off to work and the box poohs itself whilst I am away her in-doors will get on her hobby horse again.

I should say that without all the help and support I have received through this forum I would have purchased a rather elaborate door stop from China – so thanks to all for replying.

Regards.
