Hi Guys,

I currently have a DM800 which is connected to my DNS server which is created for my IP.

I was wondering whether I can access my receiver from a mobile position via PC (not connected to my LAN)?

ie. I would like to connect to my receiver at home from work.

Regards

i have the same setup, forwarded port 80 and saved the ip address on my phone so could manage the server remotely but then i realised that if i had a client connected to my share, they can enter the dns address in their browser and connect to my dreambox so was a security issue there.

what i could do in theory is rather than forward port 80 is to choose a random port however that still poses s security risk if someone is using a port scanner. the username and pass on a dreambox even if changed i dont know how secure it is so not really risking.

maybe others have acheived this without the security risk, will be interesting to hear.

Oops just noticed that you are not necessarily asking to stream to work.

In order to see your Dreambox web control from work you just need to port forward on your router.

So in your router settings you could port forward all port 80 connections to your dreambox's port 80. If you are going to expose your dreambox to the web like that you will need to set your dm login security to stop unauthorised access.

Hi Guys,

The main reason I want it for was to access my Dreambox for streaming via "Air Video" on my iPhone.

I currently have Air Video set up and running and my Dreambox streams perfect, however the downside is my laptop (where I have the Air Video Server connect) has to be left on and running at home.

Now after reading a couple of the above post and other googling I have managed to now connect to the Dreambox through Air Video via my external IP rather than my IP for the receiver on the network.

Resulting in me being able to take the laptop anywhere and connect to anyones network and be able to access my Dreambox via Air Video on the iPhone.

I would also keep all the necessary files on a USB (inc Air Sender Server Software) and use it another PC connected to the internet once again allowing my laptop switched off.

I would recommend Air Video to all with iPhones, iPods or iPads wanting to stream channels as the quality is way better than VLC and pretty simple to set up and best thing Air Video App will allow you to change channels etc with no issues.

By the way the Port isn't forwarded via Port 80, but port 8001, which even if I did have clients they would not be able to access the receiver as I have been informed it's the port for streaming out only.

What if you wanted to ftp to your dm800 across the internet would you forward port 21 instead of the 80 and what would be a good ftp client for connecting to your box?

yes m8 for ftp port 21. I use flash fxp which I have always found easy to use
