dm500 v8

hi guys
just been given a dm500 v8 to have a play with , i only ever use technomates so please bear with me ,
so this box is a clone of a 500 s , which is the best image to put on the box ? and what is the easiest and saftist way of doing this so i dont brick it lol

do i load this with dcc?

i find that image is personal choice but i like pli images
and there is a few ways to flash them found the easiest way is to use
flashwizard

As with any Dm 500 Clone, avoid any Gemini images newer than 4.2 they contain clone killer code which will over write the bootloader on the box...effectvely bricking it...

Safest way to flash is using DreamUp and a serial cable takes about 10 minutes. OpenPli are the most up to date images and ave Rytec EPG plugin etc..

ok just downloaded dream up but dont have a 232 port on my laptop , so can i do it via network ? also downloaded nabilosat darkstar image

You need Dreambox Flash Wizard to flash over network. If any thing goes wrong though..only way to recover is over serial. So might be worth having a machine with a serial port available to borrow from a mate incase anything goes wrong.

Good idea to backup the orignal image as well, just in case you want to flash it back for any reason...

cheers pal gonna have a go now i do have an old pc in thre garage that i used to use for flashing eurovox etc but no monitor so mite have go buy one just in case will keep you posted on how i get on

i have tried the flash wizard route , it got to 23% then said the port was closed now my pc does not detect the box it tells me to check my peramiters in the config , my ip is still the same user is root pw dreambox , but cannot detect it , any ideas ?

is you dreambox still on and connected to your network? can you connet with an ftp program like filezilla?

if you can still ftp into the box put your image into tmp folder and rename to root.cramfs then go into settings-expert settings-update image and flash from the boxes onboard menu.

Is it better to use Flash Wizard or DreamUp?

DreamUp v1.3.3.4 + Serial Null Modem cable. This is the most reliable method. It is much slower than flash wizard though..15 minutes roughly to flash image over serial null modem.

DreamUP flash time drops to around 2 minutes if there's an ethernet connection as well as the null modem!

Hi sorry to hijack this thread but how do you update a channel list.m3u on this box?...channels have disappeared so bloke has sent me a TV.channels list.m3u file...ta

no sorry havnt tried that, and im not gonna sit in front of my laptop for ages.lol, its not my box, a freind wants his channels list updated..

Well if you don't want to put the effort in what's the point in asking? If echanneliser works with E1 then its a 5min job tops.
