Hi guys,

just wondering if it would be possible for a dbox2 to be made into a card server/sharer for another box?

i.e, to share its inbuilt softcam with another receiver, such as a dbox1, pace/sa/sammy unit etc?

what I am thinking of is to utilise the dbox2's power to enable a second or third unit to au function without the need for any card bar a dummy card linked to it and the dbox2?

... or if not on dbox2, how about dreambox?

cheers

CS stands for Cardsharing and is very popular in Germany. With this method a valid card for a PayTV Provider can be shared via a DBox or a Dreambox with multiple slaves via the Internet. The Slaves can watch all the channels that are subscribed to and not only the one that is actually watched. The slaves still need a Sat or Cable Connection to be able to receive the actual TV Signal. THIS IS OF COURSE ILLEGAL !!!

As above.

However, this is by using multiple DBOX/Dreamboxes, etc. I dont think there is a way to "card share" with a pace/sammy/sa.

hi,
thanks but I was thinking more along the lines of something like a dummy card to dummy card solution much like a season interface/ magiccam/xcam cardloader (which might even be possible to make wireless!)

Something that would slot into the dbox2s card slot and then into the card slot of another receiver?

The dbox2s softcam would control the instructions into and out of the other receiver/s?

There is room for more than the one softcam in a dbox2, so how about one for the dbox2 and the other one/or even two for the other receiver?

surely this could be made to work on a pace/sa/sammy etc and hows about even on a dbox1?

If nothing else, this would at least give some life to those dbox2's which have knackered tuners!!!

cheers for any info guys

The targed for cardsharing is to decode a scrambled signal. With a knackered tuner there are no datas for descrambling.
I know only a cardsharing solution for premiere cards with dbox1 and season interface.
Cardsharing for subbed boxes makes no sense and nobody programmed anything for that.

hi,
the datas would come from the season interface.

surely it would be possible to use a dbox2 as a smartcard for other boxes?

The tuning would be done by the other receivers and the dbox2 would be responsible for the card datas?

more than one box could be served as the dbox2 has 2 cardreaders!

All that has to be done is for the softcam to be turned into a season interface cam????

cheers

Cardsharing between dbox2 items or dreamboxes means there is no cardreader needed for the client boxes. The emu software for such boxes can do the job without cams and send requests to the server box and the server box feed the card with the requests and send back the answers. Bottleneck is the card which can only process a smaller amount of requests in a given time.
For dbox1 items is a pc soft available which can handle a network connection on one side and a connection to the dbox1 via season on the other side but only for premiere card emulation.
If you want to programm such a thing for ex-subbed boxes you have to cut talk back and you have to know IRD and BK. If you reached that point its easier to use a real card.

hi,
yes, easier but dbox2 softcams seem rather good, especially if can be interfaced into other boxes via wireless season interface!

How difficult would this be to do?

surely such a system could work for dbox1 and other pace, etc boxes!

This will just give greater options and its always better to have alternative choices available .... especially if all you want to do is to use a tuner defective dbox2 and save time and money on various cards!

The dbox emu software can talk to the card on the server and via network to the emu software on other boxes.
A dbox2 with faulty tuner is only useable as server in such a environment.
If you plan a wireless season you need software on your device which are able to talk to that emu software via network and can emulate a real card on the other side against the cam software.

so maybe a wired one might be better!

if too much work involved via the dbox2s card slot then how about linking the season interface directly into the dbox2 rs232 and talking to other boxes through that?

cheers

I don't know any dbox2 software which can handle a season interface. I know only pc software for that.

so the questions are whether there is a linux season interface program available and, if not, would any linux experts be willing to make make one to work on a dbox2?

For what its worth, I have all the bits and would be willing to help with the testing.
