I used to flash a mates dbox2 until he moved away. He wants me to instruct him how to reflash but I think its too technical for him (computer newbie).

He has a grasp of flashfxp. I wonder if its possible to copy EVERY file from my dbox via fxp - email it to him - and then for him to copy the files to his dbox via fxp?

Seems a long shot but is there another way of backing up my dbox and transferring it to his without going through ifa and bootmanager?

Sure, just use the backup function under Services to create a .img file with all your settings. Your friend can then FTP the image to his box, use the restore function under Services, and hey presto. If he moved outside your cable area, he might have to do a re-scan to get a working services.xml.

On your box...

FLASH WITHOUT BOOTLOADER

A file called mtd3.img will be created in your /tmp folder. Email this to your mate and tell him to ftp it to the /tmp folder on his box. Then he has to do this...

FLASH WITHOUT BOOTLOADER

Choose the mtd3.img file from the list and it will be flashed to the box. Now both boxes will have identical images on them.

Make sure both boxes have the same number of flash chips, i.e. 1x & 2x. If they are different this won't work and he'll end up with a KEIN SYSTEM.

yeah mate pretty simple, press dbox , then service, image backup, without bootloader. This will make a copy of ur files on ur dbox. Do not unplug dbox, connect to pc thu ftp, go to tmp folder and then copy file over, think its called mt3.img. this file will be about 7mb so u can just mail it to him, to ftp. Insturctions for him 2 flash the image across r pretty much same, ftp mt3.img file to .tmp directory on box, dont turn off dbox, connect dbox to tv, press dbox, service, image update, falsh without bootloader, shud see mt3.img file select it and it will flash it.

...or if he's really dumb...

Connect to his PC via Remote Assistance and do it all for him :)
