Your local Toyota dealer should be able to help- take V5 along with you to prove ownership.

thanks for the reply but I did that and was quoted £1000 as they would have to change all locks, ecu etc

I take it you have the remote fob to enter the car ? If the ignition key was not chipped a quick cheap option would be to replace the ignition barrel only and use the fob to enter and lock the car, if the ignition key had immobiliser chip you are fecked

Sounds to me like they're 'at it', losing keys isn't uncommon, and to quote £1000+ is daylight robbery. Another member was quoted a similar amount for a replacement radio- again from Renault. Was it a traditional key, or one of those credit-card efforts?

It might even be worth asking the previous owner if per chance they ever found the 'other set'.....

just got one set with the car

OK, can't help you on this one, but a tip for the future.

If you only get one set with a car the first thing you should do is get a duplicate set made. A bit of Googling will find the places that do it a lot cheaper than dealerships.

Unfortunately, as you're finding out, you can be right royally ****ed otherwise.

Hope you get sorted anyway.

I would say, if you are only going to get one set of keys is walk away or at best get the dealer to provide a working set.
