hello peeps my friends a170 its not starting the car been standing for a few a few months they tryed to jump start the car but no good took the battery off the car gave it a full charge seems like theres plenty of power but when turn the key theres not a sound hoping it not starter motor as is a killer of a job :(but ive read elsewhere that theres a starter motor lockout relay to check before even thinking of changing the starter motor the problem is that i cant find the relay? so if anyone knows would love to know many thxs

cheers mate i was looking at that site last night thats where i got the location from just couldnt see the relay with the mass of wires lol dam they buried that relay good haha i rang mercedes to ask if that model had the lock out relay he said yes but couldnt tell me where it was i said where is it on your diagram he said its just floating but i could buy some paper work that tell you where all the fuses are for 5 pound something i said does it tell you on there he said didnt know lol jokers think they must want the car in for them to do the job must be the case for where it is hidden going to test the relay 2mo if is that got them in stock for 7 pound so fingers crossed :)

right just a quick update ive found the relay and replaced with no effect ive tested the starter motor by running a live straight to the starter motor wire that in battery tray it was a thick purple wire the car started but still dont turn over by the key :( ive looked and the only thing that is not showing on the dashboard is the thing that shows what gear your in as its the semi auto clutchless ive read if the car dont know its in nautral the car wont start :( but now im looking for any fuses that are for the acs to get the light back up so if anyone else got a clue many thx

There is a START relay (K6). which is actuated to put 12v to the starter solenoid on the starter motor itself. The start relay K6 is actuated if all other conditions are OK - i.e. if immobiliser and ignition switch are working.
On a UK car relay K6 is inside a plastic box fixed to the bulhead at the nearside. The lid is easily removed. You can check for this relay actuating by placing your finger lightly against it while someone tries to start. (With good hearing you may be able to hear it click.) The output wire to the starter solenoid is violet/white, so a DVM can be used to confirm output of 12v. ( These relays do sometimes fail I am told - burnt contacts can prevent full output even if relay 'clicks'.) The start relay is actuated by 12v from Fuse 2 (red/blue wire), and its circuit to earth is a brown/red wire. The starter solenoid voltage is fed from Fuse 8 (pink/violet wire) to the start relay, and on to the starter solenoid when the relay is actuated.

if u have a run a wire to the smaller connector on the back of the starter motor ie the solenoid and nothing is happening it must be the starter

cant get the starter motor as its under the car floor at the top of the engine but cant get to that ive started the car by put a live straight to the starter motor wire im wonder if there is any fuses for the automatic clutch system i was reading that there is one in the engine bay but cant seem to find it im also wondering if the is a seperate ecu for the acs?
