ARe there any difference beteen engine oil makes

I always sed the castrol gtx stuff but went to buy some today and he sold me some carlube. he said to me that its exactly the same stuff just different label. It was about 15 quid cheaper for 6 litres worth.

I could be wrong, but I always understood that cheap oils such as carlube tends to mostly be recycled, cleaned up and filtered oil, whereas oils such as castrol isn't, therefore dearer.
aslo most modern cars require semi or fully synthetic oil.

there are loads of differences m8. You should make sure it is the correct grade for your car. Modern cars need fully synthetic also for diesels ash content is very important . gtx is a pretty old spec now.

Yeah made sure its the correct numbr and correct synthetic type thing i always due. normally pay the higher price for the better oil.
Its just that he said its the same thing so just wondered.

how many people look in handbook and make note of correct oil to be used,i had a merc in for oil leak and seal was leaking, removed oil filter and every rubber seal was flat and hard and the crap that was in the element, she said she got a oil and filter change:banana::banana: and only wanted filter done,so wrong grade of oil used probably 10w 40, needs 5w 30 low ash,ahh well told her kak can happen with the state of oil used.
