Hello all, I am back after 2 weeks on paternity leave! had a baby girl!! :D

Anyway! I am thinking about changing my car now with 2 kids I need a family car really!!

I am looking at Ford Focus c-max diesel...I saw one which is in very good condition 54 plate but has 116k on the clock, is it too high for diesel? the guy has serviced it regularly and changed the cam belt at 100k...never know what mileage is too high! thanks

Btw, does anyone own a Renault Scenic 04 onwards ... are they good/reliable? expansive to maintain? I am considering one of these aswell....

seems high to me... what roughly you paying for it? just think you'd be wanting reliable never had a car with over 100k on it...

Was looking for a MPV few mths back and preferred the Volksagon Touran to any you mentioned, cos it's a VW! Ended up buying a van that I hope to convert to crew van, giving me MUCH more space.

Would stay away from high mileage cars. On Autotrader you can filter to diesel, mpv, mileage etc and then compare price here Free Used Car Valuations - What Car?.

Done this with my last couple of cars.

Opinions will differ, just my tuppence worth.

hmm to be honest i know peter vardy were doing meriva(old style) but registerd new for around 6.5k might be worth spending a wee bit more? for brand new.. 115000k your bound to be out a few quid in servicing costs? MOT's etc.? just my 2p worth

On modern cars the mileage doesn't matter too much if it has been serviced regularly. What does matter though is how the mileage has been clocked up, if its motorway mileage no problem at all, but if it has been used as a mini-cab don't touch it. So ask what the car has been used for.
Most modern car engines should be good for 2-300K, but remember all the other working parts (clutch, brakes, suspension etc) have also had to suffer this mileage.

115k is not horrendous for the tdci engine, of course the rest of the car will have some wear and tear due to the mileage.

The c-max is a great car but it does have a high premium on it so I would also look at the focus estate as well. Should be able to get a newer/lower mileage car for the same money and usable space is virtually the same.

is insurance group 7 is lower than my current vw golf....and Road TAX is £90 a year!!

i'd avoid anything renult, they allways seam unreliable and overly expensive when they inevitably go wrong!

Sorry, I meant I think the c-max has high price compared to focus. More then what I would expect based on the extra it offers because people see it as a 'lifestyle' car. It you really want to get one then go for it, it is a great car in its class but if you want to save some cash look at focus estate or even the hatchback. There is not a huge difference in them functionality wise.

how about this one? [ame=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2007-FORD-FOCUS-STYLE-/250732365224?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3a60d045a8#ht_1212wt_937]2007 FORD FOCUS STYLE on eBay (end time 03-Feb-11 16:25:35 GMT)[/ame]

I've had a focus and a scenic.

the scenic was great, loads of space, practical but totally unreliable (2000 model) We were worried everytime we drove anywhere in it that it was going to break down. the old models popped head gaskets all over the shop. Our eventually did the same. Would never get one again.

Now got a focus Estate and it's spot on. i have 3 kids so the back is a bit cramped for them. estates give that bit of extra room for all the shopping/stuff accociated with kids. Defo go for the ford. my mate has a c-Max, headroom is good, really really nice car. My next car if i can get one is a mondeo estate - shows how old i'm getting lol!

that will do till i have a mid-life crisis and buy a lotus elise or something in 5 or 6 years....
