Been to Rat's, have rash to prove it ;)
My daughter passed her test yesterday and now wants me to buy her a car.

I'm looking about and found a couple of ford ka's with decent spec and low miles.

They are insurance group 2 which I thought would be low enough.

I've been on go compare but the cheapest F&T policy is tipping over the 1900 mark.

Does anyone know of a company that specilizes in new drivers and maybe knock a couple of quid off ?

I tried making the Mrs the main driver and her a named drive but that was still 1695, the Mrs on her own was 290 LOL.

What a fooooooken con insurance is.

Its the same story everywhere mate they are price fixing and that's not even an exxageration. I'm currently writing something up to submit to the competition commission and any other commission it can go to but don't know what good it will do really.

yep, my insurance is due to rise by £700 thats over double what i paid last year..

Yep its a bloody disgrace ! :(

I agree with the price fixing post above, there is no competitiveness in the market at the moment, I fail to see how my insurance has gone up this year for the same cover ... gone up £500 ! with an extra years ncb, same circs as last year but lower mileage...

Its a joke and its industry wide.... My insurance brokers excuses was, 1) there has been a lot of frudalant claims last year. 2) Equity red star have pulled out of the car insurance market this year so I have been quoted of the next in line, highway....

Highway, strangely enough.. insured me in my first year of driving... a 1.3 escort, 2 driving bans previously and no ncb... £1500... f/c. Now im being quoted with 5 ncb and 2.0 £1300 ish from the same company !!! WTF lol

Stinks !

But, in line with out post... try the ones that do not quote from these comparison web sites mate.... MCE used to be really good but they only do bikes now :( Case of hit the phones mate :(

I agree about checking out firms not on Comparison websites, the exception being the Red Phone and Tesco as they are underwritten by the Red phone people.

I give them a chance every year, but are usually out by as much as twice what i end up paying.

Young drivers do get hit hard and i have no doubt it will be me forking out when my eldest gets to that age.

Try tesco with a clubcard added get the quote online, im a new driver and it was the cheapest. Still 2.2k on a 1.1L lmao. Im 19 btw

Thats alot of money, the wifes is £218 Fully comp, but then again she is 25 years older than you.

have you tried swiftcover.com...i found them the cheapest..

I think a smart thing to do in the near future for new drivers would be rather than buy a banger and spend 2k insuring it, spend the extra 2k towards a car from show room which comes with like first two years free insurance. I know vauxhall used to do something like that with their corsa models a while back.

Have you tried moneysupermarket as well?

On a car forum i visit a few younger drivers have said they got their best quote with Admiral

Ive also read about Brentacre offering a good deal but have personally not tried them.

have you considered putting her in for a pass plus it does bring young drivers insurance down by quite a bit.I passed my test last year and now me and the misses have a 2.0 td mondeo as she is younger than me both under 25 with pass plus insurance is £2400

dutcho m8 f/t is more expensive than fully comp

Thanks for the replies lads, I'm going to get her to phone round local ones instead of all this internet larky.

I've also told her that if she cant afford to put a sizeable amount towards the insurance then she can fook off ;)

Do kids think we are money pits or what ?

Bentacre i can vouch for

as 23 myself and having a heavly modded/converted ford escort (1.8 to a RS2000 rep)

i got an amazing quote of £1200..

ok 1200 sounds a lot but thats with 1 y ncb 3 pts..

everyone else wanted 2500-4000

only issue i had with them is they need the first installment 14 days after the deposit...

dosent help when you get paid 4 weekly

I had fun with Admiral ! The cheating conning fookers !!!

did a quote online for just me... NON fault accident declared... £1700 !!! lol JOKERS !

Then added my partner on a provisional license... £1300....

Then took accident off..... £1000.04 WTF !

So they are charging me £300 EXTRA because some TWAT HIT ME !!! Not like there was a lot I could have done about it either, I was stationary with handbrake on in a cue of traffic !

I phoned them and their reason was that "statistically, if you have a non fault accident.. your more likely then to have a fault accident after" WTF !! I mean, come on .... !! what planet do these people live on...

So anyway, thats the Admiral group out the window ... they can do one

Definately ring around if you are renewing. Virtually everyone I have spoken to has gotten a better deal from the existing company after contact them. Seems like a fast one they are pulling as there are still lots of people who automatically renew without checking.

NYE, 2 years ago. i was in the house, hear a bang outside. Someone spun on ice and into my car. I wasn't even IN the car, i hadn't even run it THAT DAY - but mine insurance went up for the exact same reasons.
