Hi guys,

I am trying to sort out my car insurance which is due in a few weeks for renewal.

Last year I paid around £600 with Eelephant who I have been with 2 years and now earned 2 years no claims.

This year the renewal quote is double that - £1200
I called them up and the cheapest said they could do was £1000 and the reason for the increase was the premiums have gone up this year.

Any ideas whats going on and how to get cheaper insurance?

Yep, everyone seems to be in the same boat !!!

Mine is up for renewal soon, and the prices I have had are just a joke !

I called adrian flux earlier and I asked "with more NCB is my policy not meant to get cheaper?" the lady says "this year all premiums have gone up around 30% due to a high amount of fraudulent claims last year"...

I said, well what does that have to do with me ? The insurance industry takes Billions of pounds every year.... a bad year is just tough, thats the risk they take !!! but they stuff the customers instead...

Surely there has to be a regulator or regulation that prevents them from hiking everyone's premiums ? I can only just get my insurance cheaper this year than I could get it 5 years ago with no NCB ... !! What a joke.... 5 yrs NCB and still get shafted royally

All I can see this doing is causing a huge rise in uninsured drivers, thus causing a higher number of claims on people own policies.... Greedy, thieving gits

Could it be something to do with the fact that most big insurance companies are tied in with the big banks.... and they need to make money back after them bankrupting the planet ? ... got to be a link in there somewhere.

Sorry, touches a nerve this subject lol

Get quotes from other companies m8, the insurance companies always have a high renewal premium for some reason when they Shud be giving discount for staying with them. Most the time when you tell them to cancel they tell you that they will price match, I wouldn't stay with the same company if they did anyway.

Try confused.com, always finds the cheapest for me.

Cheers

Tryed all the main sites - confused, gocompare, supermarket etc, all a major increase.

In fact I am getting cheaper quotes by £100 on fully com than 3rd party only!

Just got my insurers, insurance renewal quote through.... !!!

£1364 !! WTF I paid 700 something last year ! so a £500 increase nearly !!!!!

Extra yrs ncb as well... they can go fook, id rather sell the car.

This whole scenario stinks of price fixing to me.... they have all raised their prices and refuse to beat other quotes !! they know (insurance industry) that we need insurance so charge what they like !

The government is looking into this at the moment.
They reckon the insurance companies are sharing information with each
other and illegally fixing the prices.

Yea ive heard something about that :) about time, sounds about right to me.... the fact they wont budge on price stinks of fixing

was expecting the worst when i saw this thread got the Mrs renewal yesterday for her car and its gone up £22 for exactly the same cover.

oh except on 1 bit i noticed she now cant take the car on the Nurbergring...as if

Sounds familiar, around £400 notes give or take £20 last 2 years with 120 excess

full 9+ years no claims and all of a sudden £625 and £250 excess last week for renewall........... WTF

anyway shopped around and got it back down to £400 with £100 compulsory and £100 voluntary with Tesco car insurance

What surprised me though was putting the tesco clubcard in took £50 notes off
