so i believe the weather is going to turn very bad in the next few days and i am meant to be driving from dublin to galway on friday.

what exactly do i need to do to my car for it's 'winter service'? it's an 08 automatic by the way

As its an 08, I would say feck all.

Just check your tyre pressures, fluid levels and screenwash concentrate.

You antifreeze and battery should be OK on such a young vehicle.

screenwash concentrate, i dont just put a squirt of washing up liquid into the water then? :Fish:

i put a tiny bit of antifreeze in the screenwash bit. some told me its bad some say its good but you can buy screenwash with antifreeze built in anyway.

keep a bottle of drinking water and a few blankets and change of clothes in the boot.

was just thinking that. if it's that bad mightn't go, but i'm meant to be driving my mum down to visit my uncle, it's his birthday .........

most of all working phone charged and in credit,on no account use fairy liquid in washer bottle as it goes all snotty in bottom of bottle and the extra salt in it corrodes, use windscreen washer additive fairly strongly so it dont freeze, ice scraper for clearing windows as a round hole is useless for looking all round, dont forget the spare tyre is inflated and you know where all tools are stored in case of let down.make sure all lights are working as spot checks are more common now,do you have fog lights on car and do you know how to use them .you would be surprised how many people dont.

ps i dont do breakdowns:proud::proud:

Dont forget to take your false moustache and sunglasses we dont want any of our fellow dw members seeing your true identity if you breakdown at the side of the road.:proud:

lol anyone thats on my fb page or my msn has seen my real pic? :err:

actually i've met a few DW members in real life as well :)

I take mine to the local church for it's winter service, met several Carols there but none on DW.

Sound advice given above for winter driving needs, make sure everything is working correctly lights, wipers, horn heater/demister, washers, you have tyres at correct pressures and should you need to travel any distance take emergency items, torch, spade, Wellington boots, blanket, tow rope, hot flask and bar of chocolate.
A spare weatherproof coat and change of clothing is useful.

lol just found a bottle of frost protector in the garage. ;)

you're ok witchy it reads:

undiluted protects to - 70 degrees C
2 parts frost protector to 1 part water protects to - 33 degrees
1 part frost protector to 1 part water protects to - 23
1 part frost protector to 2 parts water protects to - 15 degrees

so you're safe enough lol

All good advise along with everyone else, I think add jumper leads to your list.

Also if you have never changed a tyre on your car, practice before its required in real life unless you want to rely on breakdown service / good samatrian. You can get extendable bar to help with wheel nuts.

Also pack of spare fuses should only cost a quid or so.

I don't know if one is required by law in Ireland but a warning triangle.

after putting all this tools and blankets etc in the car will you have enuff room
for anything else :roflmao:
