Winter Service

had a chat with my mum, so we mightnt be going if the weather is too bad.

This might sound really sad, but i went to add windscreen frost protector there, and couldnt work out where to put it? I've never had an automatic car before so the engine looks totally different and i can't find the car manuals anywhere! it's a nissan tiida automatic, i thought it might be the top left but amn't sure :(

undiluted protects to - 70 degrees C
2 parts frost protector to 1 part water protects to - 33 degrees
1 part frost protector to 1 part water protects to - 23
1 part frost protector to 2 parts water protects to - 15 degrees

so you're safe enough lol

What does it protect? :err:

It's only screen wash. :)

protects against freezing? lol mine does anyway, or will if i ever get it into the car! :(

Usually in the engine bay top left,
should be a clear/white plastic spout with a picture of a windscreen being sprayed with water on it :)

check near the front eva near to the headlights,
i got a new vauxhall this year couldnt find the thing either.

dunno if its summit there doing with new cars now.....

have a look for summat like this

windscreen-washer-3.jpg

also it might be blue

found it thank you, was nowhere near where i thought it was, was near headlights on left and was grey with little pic on it. :)

thought so, think there putting them there oon all new cars

thanks everyone for all the help, put the full bottle of freeze protector in and nearly a litre of water, so thats a 2:1 ratio, will do to -15 :)

But what happens if its -16 out ;)

best tip I can give you is do not spray your screen to clean it once you drive off.... after it defrosting... or you will pretty quickly find that you have a slab of ice on your screen ! lol

Done this a few times :s

Being a auto as well, be extra careful in the snow.... when/if it snows ! If you have a manual selection to your box, as in 1-2-3 you should be ok, but if its fully auto then could be a problem if you get stuck.... use as high a gear as possible to move away :)

ffs I'm always doing that lol,
end up having to start all over again

i have a scraper in the car, plus deicer spray, keep forgetting to use it though, its usually the bucket of water thrown over the windscreen in the mornings!

someone said not to use the deicer spray much cos it was bad for your wiper blades? is that true?

maks sure you are a fully paid member of either the AA (not alcohlohics anon lol) or the RAC.

if you breakdown, phone them and tell them you are a lone female....

they'll have you sorted in no time......

Eva, make sure you don't put the water into the cap with 710 written on it. :)

lol i'm done now and i found it myself! :)

edit: actually thats not true, magnu's post about the pic helped! lol

Don't use a bucket of hot water unless you want a cracked windscreen, I guess cold water is not going to do much.

Deicer is not great for wiper blades or bodywork but diluted down it is OK, just don't it neat unless you have to.

Don't know what make/model car it is but a lot of Ford and some other brands have heated front windscreen which is a godsend on wintery mornings.

Also automatic and manual cards engine bay look pretty much identical as gearbox/clutch is usually at the bottom so unless you are looking under the car you won't see any difference and even then you have know what to look for to see the difference.
