I haven't played with this for a while but you could take a look at the configuration. Normally the tunnel end-points are you and the remote network. If you direct traffic to a device that's not on either (like a DNS server) it's routed via your normal Internet connection.

If the version of the software you have supports routing through a remote gateway there'll be a checkbox (or similar) to select it. Alternatively, you may have a list of applications or protocols that are routed over the tunnel - you'd need to add DNS to the list.

Oh, based on PM your VPN is the wrong way around!

That's a different issue. You want to hide what you're doing from the World? They (family & friends) need to VPN into you. NoIP is a service that provides Dynamic DNS, makes your host name visible across the Internet and associates it with your IP. Nowt to do with the VPN service you have.

You need to configure your router to accept incoming VPN tunnels (or buy one that can do this - like a Draytek) and use NoIP to establish the tunnel(s). So, people will VPN into you and the World won't see what you're doing so won't care ;)

More detail? I'm not a sat-guru, networking is my area.

Stuff like 'hidemyass' hides your IP when you access services like websites as it 'proxies' web-browsing etc. It has no effect on inbound connections - that's people trying to connect to you.

You can open ports on the router to allow people in but that has to done on your public IP, NOT your VPN. The VPN really just creates a virtual interface for your own use. You route outbound services, such as HTTP (web), over the VPN making it appear the requests come from somewhere else. The remote network routes replies back to you via the VPN.

So, it's no use for delivering services to others (such as sharing your server). To do that you need a router that can accept incoming VPN connections on YOUR IP. That way you don't need to open any ports which could reveal what you were doing.

You'll need a router that supports incoming VPN connections, configure it and give friends/family the details to set up connections. You don't need dynamic DNS for this but it can make it easier for users.

I've always stuck with Draytek for this but you would need to post some details on your service such as ISP before anyone could make a recommendation. Once we know what would work we could advise on how to set it up.

Currently got vm super hub which is in router mode

Then, unless someone knows better, you'll need another router and put the Superhub in modem-mode. I don't believe the Superhub can handle inbound VPN.

I think ur right mate
I was thinking of connecting an old tplink router to my super hub
Not sure if that will work

Thanks mate
I think I might buy a draytek lol
Will any draytek do or a specific model???

I would also change your VPN provider..... Hidemyass, will rat you out if it came to it. Check torrentfreak for a list of vpn providers that don't log anything!!

Ya got me there! You'd have to VPN to the Ethernet interface, not tried that but I'll test it tomoz :)

And again you finish getting this all setup, cs on 28.2e will have ended lol

It didn't work on my somewhat elderly Draytek so you'd be safest getting one with a WAN port - they're designed to do that.

Draytek 2830 should do it - Seg Communications rather than fleabay as a preferred source. Their support is reasonable too.

Have you had a look at overplay.net,i have a tp link gigabit router with the vpn on it so all my traffic is going through it pc /sat boxes had about 10 months , you have about 50 servers to choose from seems to work well, read of a lot of peeps using it to get aljazerra/benin sports on ip streaming
