FREE UK geographical landline number for your PC

Hi,

Not sure if someone posted.

Recently, I saw some posts about voipcheap and voipbuster to make PC to landline calls for free.

Now you can use your PC as a landline phone to receive (via sipgate) and make phone calls for free (via voipbuster, voipcheap)

This is how to make your PC become a landline phone with a UK geographical number (starting with 01, 02) for FREE.

1. Go to: http://www.sipgate.co.uk
Choose and register a free geographical number.

2. Download the software named X-Lite. It can be found from the sipgate homepage. It is in the software section.

3. Install the X-Lite on your computer.

4. Go on to the sipgate site again, log into your sipgate account there.

5. Go into the MyAccount section to get information for setting up the X-Lite. It is in Connection Information section.

6. Use that information (in step 5) to config you X-Lite.

Configuring X-Lite:

Get the information in the step 5 above for this configuration.


1. Download X-Lite from:
http://www.xten.net/index.php?menu=products&smenu=download

2. Run X-Lite

3. Click on the Menu key on X-Lite. It is next to the Dial key.

4. A new dialog appears. Choose System setting

5. Double click on SIP Proxy, the Default.

6. Fill in the information as follow:
Enable: Yes
Display name: (you can type in your name.)
Username: (your sipgate account username)
Authorization user: the numbers of SIP-ID (you get this number from MyAccount)
Password: (SIP-Password)
Domain: sipgate.co.uk
Proxy: sipgate.co.uk

others left as default.

Now, here you go! Your PC become a landline phone with a geographical number . : multi :

thanks mate for that but tried to follow all the instructions but still cant get it to work pls pm me or let me know how to get it to work have tried all the options it just keeps sayin lgin failed contact network provider. cheers mate great find if it works.

hi sv still cant get it to work is it cos i am trying it over a wireless connection or something. i have followed all the config instructions but still no luck. all the info is put in correctly but it just wont connect it says login failed contact network provider.

I think it might be the case that your router block the ports.
I think you can try to open the ports 10000 (STUN) and 5000 (RTP) and forward them to your computer to see if it helps.

By the way, I am uploading a third party software, called Firefly. This software will allow you to set up both sipgate and voipbuster/voipcheap. With firefly, you can receive and make phonecalls. I will upload the link when it is available.

PS. Note: the latest version of firefly doesn't allow you to do this (i.e. config for third party provider).

Go to Menu/Options.

Select Network.

(Tick Active)
Name: Sipgate
Network Type: SIP
Server: sipgate.co.uk
Username: Your sip address (numbers only.. don't include the @sipgate.co.uk)
Tick Use STUN for this sip network.


In SIP Tab.

Contact name: sipgate.co.uk (or maybe type in anything)
Tick Use STUN
The stun server was stun.sipgate.net:10000.

If it still doesn't work, try to change the RTP Port from 5000 to 8000.

You can aslo use this firefly to set up your calling out account (e.g. voipbuster/voipcheap).
Choose IAX when configuring voipbuster/voipcheap.

I was having the same problem, if you are logged into sipgate, follow timekeepers link and scroll down the page. The settings page will have all your details filled in, put in these values as they appear.

I was getting mixed up with the username, this is your phone number.
The authorization user is also your phone number.
The password is shown on your acount page.

You're going to have to forward the ports on your router/firewall too I suspect.
