Tenda N60 Wireless-N600 Dual band Gigabit Router £34 and some pennies delivered.

can this take the tomato or ddwrt firmware

well i got this today and its outstanding, jacked the supposed to be great tplink off and hooked this up to a netgear in modem only mode, easy setup and the difference is something else. page load times when ive other items running on the net ect.. blazing!!!.

if i was online on the laptop with the dreambox hooked up and xbmc running on a revo streaming a film it all worked fine but compared to this it seems sluggish now. this handles the lot and all at great speed.

ive had the revo streaming the dreambox hooked up the xbox online with link and ive been browsing the web just to give it a test and no matter what ive chucked at it.. lightning response and load times.

dont get me wrong the tp-link all handled the above and coped but this just seems effortless and super quick.

early days but seems the best 34 quid ive spent in a while.

Thanks for letting us know how you got on Thommo...

Things like that will make it easier for members to know if they are buying something decent or not, I bought a TP link for a simple wifi extender, and it was awful made my whole network drop... I just buy draytek now, but might get one of these and test it out now.

I cack at this sort of thing so bear with me lol

so would this replace my Netgear 2000 wireless router ? as its really giving me problems at the moment, so Im looking to upgrade :) I have updated the firmware but it still constantly drops pages and I have to refresh every page nearly all the time, hardly ever connects to app store

so is this what I need ? and is it really simple to set up even for a Rat ;)

I do not think this is a ADSL router mate, if you have a standalone modem I think this will be great, but I am not sure, I just need an extra wireless point :)

ahh right

I see people hooking them up to there existing routers :err: thats what made me wonder if it replaced, Ill keep looking lol

Its a router only so you need a modem or a previous router that you can chuck into modem only mode.

works exactly as any other router after that... the onlt difference from this to your current one is the lack of a modem inside.

Im lucky enough to have a netgear that i can chuck into modem only mode so when i do that its not longer a router its just a modem so i hooked that up to the new one i bought.

so you'd need a modem seperate for this.

edit: just to say ive been trying to get this thing to fail on me or disconnect ect.... its not having it..rock solid so far (early days though).

im on the xbox now online playing a video on the xbmc on the revo (no buffering on any films ive come across yet) and playing youtube vids on the pc, missus is on the net on her phone dreamboc hooked up (yeah not bandwidth hungry but non the less its part of the network).

everything is playing/running with no slow downs buffering lag (xbox).... like i said my tp link handled all that too but this just seems to do it with no effort.

Hi and thanks for the info on this router, on my TP link router I have to perform regular reboots as it sometimes will not accept WiFi connections from my mobile devices. Do you have the same issue when using the Tenda N60 ?

Cheers

No not on the tenda but i did on the tp-link, there over rated i only bought one of them becaus eof the people hype when they came out, they are shite and get too hot then the problems start.. no connections random reboots ect.... the new one has served me proud so far but its early days so cant comment on anything else.

Nice find Thommo, ordered.

been running mine a few days and ive not had any issues with it and its not slowed down or dropped and runs fast too, nice features in the router page too (not dd-wrt with millions of features) but nice ones and easy setup, nice graphs showing traffic and nice bars showing cpu and memory usage (mine never go above a quarter of the capacity) add the that timers to switch the net off and even a guest network option its got some nice tools for the cash and most of all it works great.

just a little update re this router, Ive done all the xbox and xbmc sreaming test the only thing i hadnt done is newsgroups and..... well its running at full bandwidth and when i used to download at full bandwidth i got slow downs on forums and webpages.

Im currently downloading at full pace and came on here to test the browsing and theres no slow down, pages load as they should so im not sat waiting for them to catch up before loading.

this router has bandwidth control so you can set your items to only have a set amount of bandwidth BUT ive not bothered with it and i dont think i'll have to as even at full whack i get no slow downs on webpages.

the tp-link was an arse for it... downloading and the web worked but sometimes you had to wait for pages not with this.

I'll say it again so far this is the best router i have owned and the best 34 quid ive spent... i wouldnt mind but im not even touching the 5ghz side of it as i only have a few things that are wireless and they dont support 5ghz so this is all on one of the 2 wireless that is available, the 2.4ghz.

i will add im downloading over wireless on the same laptop im typing on now.

just a bit more info for those who've seen this and are pondering a purchase.

Thanks I bought one and it is the best move I made in ages! Also have a netgear that I moved into modem only mode and I have not had a problem with a drop out since. You are a star Thommo!
