The V+ box. £75. No monthly charge for people on the XL TV package, otherwise £5/month (definitely should upgrade to XL unless you are on the bottom (free) TV pacakge, because XL gives you free music movies and videos on demand, and free V+ subscription).

Information:
http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/dtv/vplus/index.html

It has three tuners (record two channels, watch a third).

HD output via HDMI. The HD content is BBC HD (no other linear channels), plus on demand movies, and other on demand HD content.

It's a PVR, so you can pause live TV.

7-day EPG (verus 1-day programme guide for your existing box)

You can record up to 80 hours of content, which is twice as much as Sky+.

Normal price is £150. £75 for a quality PVR AND HD box is a superb price (£329 + £10/month for SKY+ HD, which has better linear but inferior on-demand HD content)

For existing customers, I think new customers can get it, but only over the telephone, it's not on their website.

The ownership of the V+ box remains with Virgin, which means they are responsible for servicing for the lifetime of the box.

The HD content on Virgin is somewhat limited, but just as a PVR it's a good deal. HD ondemand content (mostly free) includes Lost, Greys Anatomy, Criminal Minds, Day Break, Brothers and Sisters, and a few dozen movies (at £4/each).

This is NOT on the Virgin website, but it definitely is a genuine deal that I have just ordered, and would advise you to call up now and ask for the £75 V+ special offer, because there is already a 10-day wait for installation, which will only get longer when they publicise this.

Just to add, to order call
150 from your Virgin phone, or
0845 454 1111 from a non-Virgin line.

XL TV is £20.50/month on its own, which is the top TV package (all Discovery Channels, etc.). But there are various packages available, e.g., broadband, XL TV and phone for £30/month.

is the box then urs to keep ? (maybe a silly question) lol

From what i read they own it but it's yours to keep.

I posted this on the general chat section this morning. Ive been told the offer is just on for today. So if anyone is interested, you only got today to do it. Ive been offered the xl package (phone/tv/broadband) for £35 a month plus v+box for £75. Im tempted but I got a starview, another one on the way plus dvd recorder. Is it worth it I wonder.

I was looking at how to connect this to starview so I can hopefully then pause/record whilst watching via starview.

If you speak with retentions or sales then you might be able to negotiate a cheaper price.

I just orded one and get to keep my current deal but just pay £5 a month extra.

Paul if you have an hd tv make sure they leave you an hdmi lead.
I watch mine through the hdmi settings and the quality is far better as it appears to upscale.
You wont be dissapointed its a great bit of kit.

what package is that Paul ? did u get the box free and pay £5 or did u pay £75 + £5 a month ?
Im sooooo tempted but not sure hmmmmmm

Im on XL package

XL BB too m8 ? 20mb

I got XL TV
XL Phone
2mb BB
for £30

You gotta negotiate and say you want xl broadband. If no decent deal, then ring again later and each person gives different offers.

Silly or what, but who cares.

Mind you they promised me decent deal in july but it didnt happen. Have to monitor them.
I got the lady to record the offer on my notes so there is no screwup this time.

Worth making sure they do that.

Questions I face -
I dont need tv as I got virgin mobile 300mins/300text for tenner
I dont need tele cos I got starview
Do I really need v+box

ha, my battery on laptop ran out 15mins ago in the middle of typing this!

We got a phone call last month and we were offered the V+ box for £25

Tried to get one for upstairs but the offer was only one per customer. Its defo worth £75 though.

Im gonna see if I can get the box any cheaper, if I can get it max 40 notes then I will get it, otherwise I aint gonna bother.

You should get a HDMI cable with it, i certainly did anyway. Its a very good box as the PVR function is far better than SKYs, however it obviously lacks HD channels to watch.

just spoke to Virgin about this offer and they said the offer wasnt just for today ?

they said I could have V+ for £75 but they wanted payment first (now)
I also asked what they could do 20mb BB for with my current package, and the price was £55  that £25 more than I pay now
so I declined lol

Did u speak to retentions? Ask what variations they can do, might mean cutting down on tele. If I get the V+box, my deal should be good then, xl package and no monthly fee for v+box. Havent decided yet.

Lady told me it was today only, maybe mistaken and deal started today, dunno.

Have you looked into BE broadband m8? Faster broadband (depending on distance from exchange) and alot cheaper than virgin. Their feedback and reviews seem excellent.
