Hi all,

recently got first flatscreen tv,connected to tivo box,but with the great reviews it got for picture,im not entirely convinced..

its a samsung UE32f5000 LED,there are 2 issues with picture quality, the first is the picture screen seems to be made up of light and dark panels(vertically) across the whole screen, with the joins of the panels becoming noticable when the screen pans, and also depending what colours are displayed(not impressed),secondly, there does seem to be blurring/time lag on movement(espiecially peoples faces),

the best picture i get,is when its on HD,but catch up tv is worst,i,ve tried changing cables, and its made no difference, could it be that we share a splitter with the flat above, with the cable f-connector,because i was exspecting better picture with this tv,any feedback would be appreciated..+

HI,

thx for the suggestion, but it just made the problem worse due to the brightness of the screen,

the picture is better on the ariel tv source mode, its the picture coming from the tivo box thats the main problem,so we dont know,if its natural to the set-top box itself,or the cables somehow..

Hello,

im posting again to ask anyone who has a samsung UE32F5000 SERIES 5 TV,to see if they have the same picture issues that i have, there are back panels which make up the tv screen picture, which become more evident when camera pans, and also, slight blurring on movement of people..

im surprised they are these issues, when all the reviews i read were how the best thing about the tv was the great picture,i need to know wether this is how the tv works,or if it is a fault..

thx..

Hi mate,

I thought this was the av forums..

i'm trying to establish wether the connections are at fault first,or the the tv itself, because as i said,i learned that the tv apparently had a great picture..

If you have a Smartphone either Samsung or iPhone then download the THX Calibration APP which will guide you through setting your screen up to your own surroundings yo will of course need the phone connected to screen via HDMI for the APP to work

Just a thought

It might be an idea to try a completely different source, it does sound like there are issues there beyond the scope of adjusting settings. If your laptop has an HDMI port, that would be a good start, even cheap DVD players nowadays have HDMI. That would at least confirm or rule out a faulty TV (it does happen occasionally though!) or perhaps simply a compatibility issue with the Tivo. FWIW, I have found all Samsung TV's I've installed recently to be excellent.

Banding is "normal" for edge lit LED TVs, and not a warranty fault.

Lowering the backlight brightness reduces the noticablity for some people.

Others have reported that running one of the "pixel fixer" videos on youtube helps too. If you have photosensitive epilepsy, or are otherwise sensitive to flashing images/lights, get someone to run it for you.

Hi,thx for replying,

banding is annoying,i thought my tv was direct lit,bus i guess not..

ironically the dvd player that i had for years broke down, just before got tv,but all the issues i've mentioned,i was not exspecting with this kind of tv,espiecially the vertical panels that make up the picture,i understand the banding, if thats the way the tv actually generates the picture, but not the other issues...

Just a thought I had the other day... do you wear specs? Some are polarised and that can have a drastic effect on LCD's.

I have installed literally dozens of Samsungs in the past few years. I have quite a critical eye for these things, and I can honestly say I've never seen a problem such as that you are describing. Is there a TV shop anywhere near you where you could see a similar model set up & working? It is sounding more & more like you've bought a pup.

Hey all,

in the on-going saga of my tv..lol, i'm now thinking that, maybe all the picture issues are due to the fact that the tv is not calibrated?,i'm not up to speed on how calibration is done,or even why, could it be the reason for all other peoples tv picture problems as well

if it turns out it isn't,then i'll contact samsung themselves and see what they say..

Hi,

this might sound like an odd question, but due to the subtle but noticible pictures issue im having,is it possible that an old analogue tv in another room(not switched on),can have an affect on a flatscreen?..
