Hi All.

I bought an iphone 3g off a car boot purely on spec.
The seller said it needed restoring on itunes he had lost it,had it replaced and never knew what to do with it.I thought I could probably fix this so decided to buy it..I did the restore and the phone is good. When I put my monthly paid sim in it shows no network and sometimes tells me my network is restricted.
I know nothing about jailbreaking etc and have tried several things I have googled but to no avail.
These include turning 3g on/off date/time changing, push notification off, settings via o2, all to no avail.
As it stands this is at the moment an ipod touch as it works in every way but wont make a call or text.
Please if anyone can help me I would be so thankful.

hi mate sounds to me like the iphone has been blocked , do you know what network it is originally on ,if you find out then you could try a working sim and tell for sure if it has been blocked , if you have restored you more than likely restored to 4.3.3 so cant use ultrasn0w to unlock it unless you can downgrade the iphone to either 4.2.1 or 4.1 then use redsn0w to jailbreak and up the baseband to the ipad baseband then use ultrasn0w to unlock , the easy way is find out what the iphone net work came on , or you can ebay it as it will work abroad

Hi and thanks for reply.
It was on o2. I put my o2 sim in and it works everything but calling and texting.
The update did put it to 4.3.3 so is it doomed?

definately sounds like the phone is blocked, probably been reported stolen. When i did a insurance claim on my old iphone i actually found the phone a few weeks later after the network had blocked it, it showed full signal but wouldn't make / receive calls or txts etc but other than that its good as an iTouch.

yep if you put your sim in mate and you cant text or sms then id defo say it was blocked , so i ebay it as no service iphone or keep it as an ipod, or you could go back to the person who sold it to you as he proberly knew it was blocked , and made some bullshit up about restoring it just to sell it and ask for your money back

Thanks for the advice.
I have sold this on Ebay as a no service phone now but the buyer is aking for the serial number.
Is it right to send him this before sending the phone? Can he/she do anything untowards with this and try scamming me in some way?
Already been had once with this phone don`t want to again.

I'd ask for the money 1st cos there's that many scams out there. He bought it Knowing it's a no service phone....
Check other listings that are no service, I'm sure some say something about serials

you could speak to your local old bill, it might have been nicked, blocked and the seller fobbed it off to you, even ring 02, surely they'd be interested. I'd be spiteful mate if someone sold me a blocked phone i'd say 99% he knew exactly what was wrong with it, it could be stolen goods your now selling on.

To me personally i think this phone is stolen goods! Its blocked for a reason and 99% of the time it is down to it being stolen.
These phones are still being bought by web sites in pretty crap condition for 50 quid or there about so why would someone go and sell it at a car boot.......so its not traceable back to them I would think.
