Last night my rabbit gave birth to 3 bunnies. 2 off them were still born. We had noticed that there was alot of blood on the inside of the rabbits leg. Its breathing was laboured as you would expect after giving birth. Anyway its breathing appeared to be returning to normal. We removed the 2 still born bunnies and the rabbit appeared to be protective of the 3rd live baby. So we decided to give it some peace. So about 40 minutes later i could hear a noise as if the rabbit was running around the cage which lasted for about 2 seconds. I went in to she what she was up to and she had died (probably a heart attack), when we were cleaning out the cage afterwards there was alot more blood underneath the hay...:grayno::rip:

We only found out it was a girl about 8 weeks ago. We had been calling it Billy for 4 years, when we found out we just changed the spelling to Billie. Anyway hopefully the newborn will get through the next few weeks which are touch and go.

sory to hear that mate :( how sad :( fingers crossed the newborn makes it :)

Sorry to hear that m8, funny how all animals become part of the family

sorry to hear that mate

I would say the rabbit died from blood loss and or shock tbh, 4 years old for a first litter is far too old to breed from, breeders stop breeding at 3/4 years

how did it get pregnant if you thought it was a boy? or did you find out it was a girl and decided to breed from her ? out of interst

cheers lads, we bought a male rabbit about 5 months ago (marley), to give the other rabbit some company after my 2 guinea pigs had gone. a neighbour who has been breeding rabbits for years mistakenly told us that billy was a bloke. so once we got the male rabbit we noticed that marley was constantly trying to bang billy. so we got the neighbour back in who then confirmed billy was a she. so we decided to let them breed, she had 2 still born babies about 10 weeks ago and 1 that survived a day. we found out that it would be better for the rabbit if it had a second litter.

the wee baby rabbit is doing fine so far, the wife has been feeding it almost ever 3 hours. fingers crossed.

I dont know who told you that but as you have now found out that is wrong information mate, as the poor rabbit died

in fairness mate we didnt think for a minute there was a chance my rabbit would die, i wouldnt have chanced it if i had any doubt.

I know mate Im not saying you personally did anything wrong
you seemed to have been given wrong information from someone who calls themselves a breeder :(

i guess mate, the guy is a bit of a knob to be honest. the missus has been up about 4 times during the night feeding the little thing. fingers crossed.

the wee thing passed away about 6 this morning. the missus woke me about about 4 to tell me the rabbit was breathing funny. sounded as if the wee thing had pnemonia.
the missus is devastated as she has had been feeding it every 3 hours since thursday night and got attached to the wee thing.
