Ive searched the forum and see there are a couple of threads about this but is a antivirus really needed on a Android phone ?
Do you use one ? Im in two minds if I should install or not

I use Sophos on my Android. Think if you are installing from unknown sources on the Android then an AV is a must.
You can do remote wipe and other things via text with Sophos as well so its handy if you want some extra benefits other than just AV.

Oh nearly forgot....its also free.

If you are using Windows, It`s strongly recommended to have one. Avast does pretty god job and it has a free version. No need for Android.

avast do a good free antivirus for android devices, if you stick to the google play store then you dont really need one , if you download from 3rd party cracked app sites then id say yes install one

Why would you use one on a tablet or 'phone? Apart from the fact that virus issues are largely old-hat anyway and most exploits will be from dodgy links, attachments and websites how would anti-virus help?

I use Kaspersky Mobile.

I get a free 1 year licence as a Barclays bank online customer.
Licence is renewed upon request for free after expiry.

I use lookout on my android phone. it does antivirus/malware/spyware, remote lock & wipe, backups your sms & contacts as well as call logs, phone location finding, takes pictures with your phones camera if it gets nicked also send a location signal when the phones battery gets low. it also check weblinks to keep you safe whilst browsing and make sure you are secure for online banking. Protects your privacy from dodgy apps. Scans all "click-to-call" links to keep you safe from dialer related threats.

There an IOS version too.

On Windows I have 2/3 on the same machine running at the same time, on my android devices I do not think I would ever bother.

Your pc must run like a dog. Everytime you open anything up it is being scanned 2/3 times.

You only need one AV on a device

no m8 fast as anyone elses on here ;)

I have a main Antivirus and malwarebytes anti-spyware plus my own spyware checking software which I produced a few years ago but finds a lot of stuff that other mainstream software's don't find. the benefit of being a computer programmer and also a background in Windows operating system means that I can get my system running spot on.

Yep running windows 8.1.. AV built in with defender but also use malwarebytes and superantispyware for manual scans..
Would not use anything for android.also a Microsoft beta tester.

Correct more than one causes clashes leading to NO protection at all.

I meant on a Android Phone :)

just in case of any confusion ;)

I agree with you if I had 2/3 antivirus programs only but I have a paid for main antivirus, malwarebytes antispyware (both run at the same time) with zero problems and heck of a lot of detections.
and the other I run every now and then which sometimes finds crap what malwarebytes does not. but overall ive had very little problems, my whole system has been tweaked well, and also if anything were to happen catastrophically then ive set it up so that with the click of a button I can have it all back running in 2.30 minutes.

What's Kaspersky like for mobile devices? has anyone ever used this and can you recommend it if so or would you stear clear of it.

There is a decent free mobile security by Iobit get it from play..does a great job.

never even thought about a virus scanner on a mobile didn't think you could even get a virus on a mobile.

@Napster theres been a few m8

personally I have 2 android devices, 1 on contract that I only use for calls so if it does get encrypted id simply send it back
and another which I only paid £10 which I use for most other stuff, if it knackers ill just get another. ive backed up all important files off it anyway. but if you have spent a small fortune then I should imagine it would be worth it.
