hey guys my mate has an android tv box with xbmc on it. im just wondering, do these wee boxes have versions and capabilitys. or can u take any apk and install it. its before i do some bedtime reading on installing xbmc on my other pals android tv box. ive already put showbox on it. but this xbmc looks quite good too.

if you just want xbmc then best to remove andriod and install linux
this can be done on most android boxes

im a noob at these wee things. hence why im asking. is there a tut or an apk or something?

ok try this to install xbmc then you need to install fusion and some addons

Most android versions i've seen don't have hardware acceleration so hd playback is crap and jumpy, google beyondxbmc and install that as then HD will work and play flawless plus it comes preinstalled with fusion etc...

once you install xbmc on an android machine you can them install the linux version from the wizard on all m1 and m3 devices
this makes the most of the hardware and frees up all the memory eaten by android

PROBLEM WITH THAT IS THESE CHINESE ANDROID BOXES (*CAPS *BALLS) is that they are usually no brand type boxes or clones so you dont really know whats inside re: flashing, I found out my ones innards with a bit of google work but have left it as an android box as i have android apps i use that are not compatible with a standalone xbmc (but you can run them from within xbmc)and tbh mine doesnt eat hardly any resources and beyondxbmx isnt cpu/memory hungry either, Probably the best version ive used in that regard.

Just looked for this - can you install it as a standard OS? Or does it run on top of?

Also check out this tv - its fekin huuuuuge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvVAcbgqsQs

Sorry to hijack the thread, can I ask about the plus points on using linux on these boxes, also any tuts on installing, cheers guys

i find its runs smoother and boots direct into xbmc . what most people want from these

Thommo is right tested lots of these Android TV Boxes , there is 1 ive tested runs xbmc like a dream very smooth indeed its the XBMC Quad Core RK3188 TV Box Android 4.2 2GB 8GB 2MP Webcam Bluetooth Mic CS968 for the money does everything really plys its an Android version of xbmc so easy to install, the only problem i came across is the version of xbmc installed played laggy and slow, i deleted it and installed the android version striaght from xbmc site, the latest stable version is Frodo 12.3 , stay away fron nightly builds of gotham until it comes out of the beta stages , for anyone who wants a look of the specs look HERE9

Nice find @biffo1. I've only just started looking into this and that looks a great deal for a quad core. XBMC on the PC (running Frodo) right now isn't too good tbh. New to XBMC and that box looks like something I'm after :)

I have had a MX2 android box with frodo 12.2 on and the hd playback was a bit laggy and itv player would not work, so i installed an older version of the matricom firmware on with xbmc already included and both play back fine

You can also tell xbmc to call and use mx player instead which you can download from playstore (i have not tried this yet as i don't have a mx2 at present (got one on order);)
Its suppose to play 1080 /hd perfect
1. Download this specific build of XBMC for Android.
2. Download and install MX Player Free from the google play store. ( and launch it at least once)
3. copy the playercorefactory.xml file below to your /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata folder. Be sure to show hidden folders in your explorer’s options (I recommend ES Explorer), or you will not see the .xbmc folder

Done. The playercorefactory.xml change above is necessary to tell XBMC to use MX Player as the default player for videos. The specific XBMC apk I’m suggesting is necessary because the normal xbmc cannot properly call MX Player.

Like i said 99% of laggy playback on them is the lack of HW acceleration, beyondxbmc uses some type of lib file to get round this so even 1080p runs flawless, I have a similar set up to the post above me running everything through mxplayer but beware dont mess too much as if you're a live tv streamer some of the streams wont play using the above, easy fix though just edit the config file to use default player on rtmp (iirc its those type) streams.

mines a rockchip dual core box (not stick) and is zippy as hell and loads everything fast and plays all files inc 1080p faultless, I ve been through the shite and searched and searched until i got it working bang on and the beyondxbmc is by far the best ive used.

Take that advice or leave it its makes no difference to me but if you're struggling with slow shitty boxes and laggy playback do it.. cpu runs at around 35/40 whereas frodo 12 was running 100% virtually all the time.

Which version of beyondxbmc have you got running mate? Also Can I install from USB rather than SD card as I don't have one? My box is one of those crappy Chinese models which to be fair aren't much cop like this
