Looks like the RK3188 is the box to get at the moment as according to XBMC page, XBMC has been tweaked and tested on that chipset.

@oneman so you would also recommend the box biffo1 is suggesting then.

I haven't used that specific item or seller but the specification and price look good and it has the right chip for best XBMC support.

Ok oneman thx, i was wondering if the seller was any good as his negative feedback doesn't make for pretty reading. @biffo1 did you use the seller in your link?

Think I'm gonna treat myself on payday to one of these. What's the picture quality like for movies and footy mainly?

I think you would need @biffo1 to answer that @seanicca, but as far as movie playback goes
it says it will playback 1080p blueray rips ok.
As far as streaming video i imagine it will depend on your internet speed quicker the better video quality.

Was thinking that. I don't really download so streaming mainly, I'll give sky a ring see if any offers to upgrade to fibre.

What if we created a user group for these exact boxes, i'm looking into buying one also but to be very honest I wouldn't have a clue where to start with getting it tweaked and if I may be so bold as to say, were all getting them to run xbmc of some form or other so if a complete mutts nuts set up could be downloaded it would be brilliant. Thoughts anyone?

@installer They come installed with xmbc, but biffo1 said it was better to remove it and use the lattest from the xmbc site, although i think i'm going to try the beyondxbmc version recommended by Thommo .

I read that alright but the point I was trying to make was say for example a user ( prob biffo1 or thommo lol) has it set up so it runs for example beyondxbmc and plays all file types flawlessly after editing config files and settings to get there, would it not be handy if new users could just download that set up and flash it to the box and have it working the same way, that way everyone would be singing from the same hymn sheet so to speak and as time goes on and peeps find new interesting apps etc, it could be just added to each box the same way, i'm not great at explaining what i'm trying to say but hope you get what i mean lol

Ok i think i get what you mean, somewhere with presetup xbmc builds or the files people want in one place?

Sounds good to me, let others do all the hard work lol.
I'm sure biffo1 and Thommo will help us with what we can't figure out and then i will also learn something, as i'm not that android or xmbc savy.

So my mini android box arrived today, all seems to work well, but while playing with the system bar buttons to see what they did, i pressed a button that i now knowis the hide system bar, and now i can't get back. Anybody know how to.

After a bit of reading it seems you can drag it back up but not with the remote it would seem. Can i use a wired usb mouse with these boxes. @biffo1

The joys of playing with new things, looks like i need a usb wireless mouse and keyboard
to make life simple, and junk this crappy remote.
