Samsung has confirmed it will be releasing its Galaxy S4 smartphone with just a quad-core processor in the UK, not the octo-core powered beast that will ship elsewhere.

The Korean firm confirmed the news in a statement sent to V3 on Wednesday.

"Samsung Galaxy S4 is equipped with a 1.9GHz quad-core AP or a 1.6GHz Octa-core AP. The selection of AP varies by markets. In the UK the Galaxy S4 will be available as a 4G device with a 1.9GHz quad-core processor," the Samsung spokesman told V3.

The Galaxy S4 was unveiled earlier in March at the Samsung Unpacked event in New York. The octa-core processor had originally been marketed as a key selling point for the Galaxy S4.

Even without the added boon of the larger processor, the S4 does still feature some impressive software features, that may entice business users.

Chief of these is its Knox business support. Knox offers similar services to BlackBerry Balance, letting users set up separate work and home areas on the phone.

Other innovations include the S4‘s Smart Pause, Air Gesture and Air View features. Air View lets users preview the content of an email, S Planner, image gallery or video without having to open it by hovering their finger over the relevant icon.

Air Gesture lets users change the music track they're listening to, scroll up and down the web page they are viewing or accept a call, for example, all with a wave of their hand.

Despite the innovations, analysts have been sceptical of the S4 and its chances of outselling its key competitor, the next Apple iPhone.

The Galaxy S4 is set for release in the UK on 26 April, check back then for our full review.

probably something to do with LTE, wouldnt be surprised if only non LTE terrotries get the octo core version. It's not true Octo core anyway..so I doubt it will make much difference.

The exynos is supposed to be a pain to develop for too so custom roms will probs be limited. As above it apparently does not support LTE which seems a little daft
