Took delivery of my Nexus 4 a couple of days ago.. I currently have a Galaxy S3 which i've had since launch.
I was originally planning to sell the S3 and keep the Nexus 4. But...after playing with the Nexus 4 for a couple of days i've changed my mind.
Nexus 4 suffered WiFI problems as soon as it was out of the box...most downloads from Google play store fail with the error "Package File is Invalid". Download on 3G and this problem doesnt occur. Now the same issue does not occur on my Nexus 7 tablet or my Galaxy S3...
I prefer the look and feel of the S3 over the Nexus 4, build qiality feels better on the S3. Battery life so far has been rubbish on the Nexus 4. Needs charging every day. My S3 if im careful I will get almost 2 days..normally 1.5 days though.
Samsung touchwiz and other enhancments offer features Vanilla android doesnt..smart-stay, flashing LED notification/different colours..The latest update from Samsung has added multi-window, and gallery styles like the Galaxy Note 2.. Theres also bounce back on the app/home screens. The camera on the S3 is better than the Nexus 4 has more features like smile detection, burst shot etc..The Nexus 4 however has photsphere which the samsung doesnt..
All in all im a bit underwhelmed with the Nexus 4, I expected it to be better than the S3 on the basis of newer OS (Android 4.2), faster CPU, Double the RAM 2gb vs S3 1GB. But strangely the S3 seems more fluid through the menus web browsing is a lot faster on the S3.
Yes, I can probably install a few apps to add the same functionality to the Nexus 4 that the S3 has. Anyway for now I have a support case open with Google for thw Wifi issue..If they cant resolve it..The Nexus 4 is going back for a refund !
Big surprise for me im a fan of Vanilla android...while the Nexus 7 is a fantastic bit of kit..not so convinced with the Nexus 4..

I've just sold my S3 and bought a galaxy nexus, couldn't justify the price of N4, and I've got £80 still in the bank.
It did take a few days to get use to but rooted and running custom rom and kernel, which I never really did on my S3. Still a few little things I need to look at but overall I'm quite happy with my gnex.

Should have kept the s3 it's much better than the gnex. Gnex will get faster official updates though being a Google product. Really easy to install custom roms and root s2 and s3 Samsung have an unlocked boot loader. Sd card slot is s big plus on the non nexus products. Google are deliberately trying to push People towards cloud storage its going to open up a big future revenue stream for them. I don't bother with custom roms on the s3 the official roms are better, Samsung haven't released the exynos source code so the custom roms have some issues .

I use to flash my S2 weekly for the fun, not as much my S3 as you said stock is good enough. Over the last few months I've changed how I use my phone, it's now a phone, which allows me to watch tv/footy at work on nights so it does me. Then again I've had a hox, xperia S, S3 and now gnex over the last 6 months so who knows when or what I'll have next.

the nexus is most certainly faster and screen looks better. there is a better weight to it also vs the s3.

that said the camera is much better on the s3 and the fact you can put a sd card in it is the parts i miss

thing is the nexus is a hundred quid cheaper then the S3 so for a lot of people they are not competing head to head.

Google are sending me a new nexus 4, sending my old ne back via RMA. lets see if it the new one works properly.
One of my phones will definitley be going, which one I don't know yet the S3 or the N4..

you should definitely get rid of the N4 as this will fetch top money on ebay as there always out of stock and are pretty rare so you will make a nice little profit not a loss! And besides that the s3 is the top of the range phone where as the n4 is made as a budget mid range phone get it on ebay quick as Ive heard that LG is making more n4 soon so prices will go right down. And always try and put your stuff on ebay on a Sunday its there best day for internet traffic

Nexus 4 has been RMA'd to Google for the WIFI issue, a new replacment is on the way, it's already been listed on ebay. Decided to keep the S3..Lets see what the Nexus 4 fetches on ebay...

Hi if you dont mind me asking did you profit on the N4? I have read in the last week that the N4 stock is being replenished as we speak

Ebay prices are poor, no money to be made. Yes Google play have the phone back in stock to order. I should be selling myn this week at a 54 quid profit..as of yet I still have it. I know someone who sold one last week at a 90 pounds profit on Amazon ..

I reckon the reason prices are a bit crap at the moment is due to people overspending at xmas I think it will be about march before prices start picking up again but by then the N4 wont be in such demand I still believe you made the right choice and get ready to sell the s3, later this year sammy is due to release a phone with an 8 core processor the words sh*t and shovel spring to mind you never Know it could be the s4 or even an s5!

I just hope Samsung don't follow the trend of dropping the sd card slot and sealing the battery in the phone. These are the two things I hate about Apple devices..Google followed suite though..

the reason they are dropping the sd slot is to encourage people to use more cloud services the only problem with cloud servers is if you need something urgent and havent got a signal your screwed I understand where your coming from with the battery though I know there has been numerous occasions that a battery pull is my only option but I did read the other day that on phones that have a fixed battery press and hold certain keys like you do to get into recovery also acts the same as a battery pull but I cant remember where I read it

generally down volume and power button should do a reset on most android phones.

I know on the gnex thats screen shot and on the s2 it was the odin mode or does that only work if you have a fixed battery?

I don't think so. I read quite a few android phone instructions with regard to rooting them and I think all of them say that holding volume down and power button for around 10 secs should do a hard reset or equivalent to battery pull. This was definitely the case with HTC phones and just tried on my nexus 4 and it also did a reset though tbh the phone had not hung.

Also volume down while you power up should take you into the boot menu.
