Hi

I need to save my contacts to my sim card as am selling my htc desire, when i go to my contacts on the phone and select import/export option, i can only save to sd card and i can only import from sim.

i need to be available to save to sim as when i get my new phone (iphone 4) i need to be able to retrieve my contacts

anyway of doing this??

save then as google contacts then just update using itunes for the i 4

when in people press menu and change view to sim i think you will find that your contacts are in fact all on the sim card

Hi there,

My HTC Desire is malfunctioning so I've been told to send it back to Vodafone, who will wipe everything.

I took am having difficulty with this, as all my contacts have been exported from SIM card to phone - and I can't switch them back. Very unhelpful.

I've found this thread, and would like to use the ap that you've kindly found and uploaded... however, I'm not sure how to use it by opening it on my PC..?
How do I make it work on my phone?

Thank you
Joe

There is not much point saving them to the SIM. The 4i takes a micro sim I believe so you won't be able to plug your current sim into your new phone.

As long as you have a gmail account registered on the phone then it should automatically be backing up contacts to your gmail account. Then as allroad you set up your gmail account on your 4i and it will import the contacts automatically,

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure about 4i - I've had a look inside and it says HTC Desire, and a bunch of other numbers. The SIM though does seem to be a normal size.

If at some point I was presented with the option of turning on some auto-sync with my google email address, I would have turned it down. I don't remember specifically whether it did ask me, but I thik this may rule out the option you've suggested. Frankly, google have enough information about me without having all of my friends and families phone numbers too.

I'd really rather save to SIM if it's possible - and I can't imagine why it isn't?! Anyone got any thoughts on making that link to the ap' above work? I've tried downloading it on my phone and the file downloads but nothing else happens.

The 4i definitely takes micro sim, the desire uses a regular sized sim. You will need to get the sim cut down to size to fit in the 4i. Your local phone shop should be able to do this with a punch but there is a risk of damaging it.

Here is a guide to backing up contacts to gmail. I would honestly have this configured anyway in case something happens to your phone. The SIM is not really a good backup place. What happens if you lose the phone ?

Thanks for the reply.

So is it really impossible to add the contacts to the SIM? Apart from anything, the phone I need to use until I get mine back is an old Nokia, which won't sync with a gmail account and I'd like to have my contacts.

I've tried the link above but it doesn't do anything!

You can sync your android to your PC using HTC software and export to contact cards. Don't know which model Nokia but on my mrs 7250 we were able to use the nokia software + usb cable to import them into the nokia.

and not sure why the link does not work for you, just tried it in IE and firefox and it works fine.
