new 4D team image

I've been making my own skin and have rather foolishly added one via downloads which has replaced some of the core converter scripts which has now broken it again lol so I might try it for a laugh.

You can at least expect me to be brutally honest :D

Wasn't 4D team another name for iQ/UR_ ?

I think so, tbh they should consider changing it to 1D (as in 1 direction) as this is where TM are headed...

Chances are they've just lifted some of the vix betas and re-jigged it a bit.

Can someone from TM or 4D tell me why they leave setup options like "Aspect Ratio", "Auto scart switching" and "WSS on 4:3" present as THEY DON'T WORK.

The Twin doesn't know the difference between 4:3 and 16:9 (it just sees everything as 16:9) so setting what the box should do for 4:3 is pointless. You might as well set it to format your HDD because it never will.

I wish TM could find someone that speaks English and then maybe find someone in Korea that speaks it too so the obvious things can be discussed/fixed.

Yeah we all want plugins to work, but is it too much to ask that the fookin outputs work as advertised

All these 'releases' are just skin updates really. The same core problems exist and will no doubt continue as nobody seems to give a damn. It continues to have poor control of the VFD, playback issues, live pause/pts works when it feels like it, the info bar doesn't update and so on and so on.

As I suspected, this is pretty much a vix beta with a pli skin wrapped around it masquerading as a 4D image.

Let's face it, we don't mind testing things that are making progress, but they break more than they ever fix :(

Can anyone suggest a twin tuner box that does actually work, I don't care about cost, I just need something that does what the box advertises as I'm done being a TM lab rat, especially as those running the lab are incompetent.

You know I thought we had trade laws in this country, perhaps I was wrong..

Its an openPLi image, with a few bits added on, like a panel of some sort and an update manager, its a million miles away from a vix based image, but, in my wierd mind, as a vix image can be created from the public openvix project, i suppose theres nothing stopping anybody (who is able to) from downloading the latest openvix sources, and modifying and creating an image based on it, like iQ have done from the start (and probably still are) and like me and others have done with the openPLi sources

this is NOT something i will be doing though (with openViX sources)

Currently I have both VU+ Duo and TM Twin OE and the DUO is most stable because of ViX 2.4 once ViX 2.4 or next version is ready for twin I see why no reason the box wont be as stable. I am actually after another twin tuner box might get a DUO but might wait to see if anything new comes out.

The clue is in the name OPENVIX meaning you can pretty much do what the hell you want, providing you give credit where its due etc, If you wish to base a image on the OPENVIX source go for it it's public for that very purpose.

p.s this is not a dig at you digi just pointing out that openvix is as the name suggests open .

I can confirm that this is the case (according to TM, anyway!). I was told by TM to try this image as a possible fix for my constant rebooting problem (see here https://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/index.php?threads/289014/ ). It didn't resolve my issue (as it was a hardware issue!), but there are a couple of things that I like about this 4D image so far:

1) Some form of full-time timeshift exists (well, at least on UK channels! Didn't seem to work with a lot of Hotbird channels we tried in another shop)
2) Apparently, this *will* reliably allow recording of more than 1 cleared channel (haven't confirmed this though - that's just what the promises said!)

It takes some mental adjustment after getting used to the ViX-based iQ image, and there are some things that I preferred (looks-wise) on the ViX image, but I'll give this 4D image a go and see how I get on...

I didn't say it was a vix image, but it isn't a million miles away from it :D

I like the fact they use the PLiHD skin, that's the one I was working on to add more info to the 2nd infobar

The ironic text used on the 1channel plugin search page made me chuckle though :)

Can anyone please let me know if this is worth installing. I currently have the 24/4/12 image running.

If you only use the HDMI port then it does enhance your box. It's not the most reliable but then again it's probably no worse than your current 24-04..

Hmmm, maybe I spoke too soon! Last night, when watching a cleared channel on Tuner A, all of a sudden the picture started breaking up every few seconds. I then discovered that this was caused by Tuner B starting to record another cleared channel. So, Tuner A was effectively unwatchable whilst recording on Tuner B! I'm starting to think that this may be a hardware issue too. FFS, is it too much to ask to be able to record 2 cleared channels (or watch 1 and record another) simultaneously?

Are we really surprised lol.. :?

Yes it is, all these releases are nothing short of skin updates with a few new plugins added, they fail to address the core issues..
Driver updates have no serious beta testing (do you know anybody testing them, oh wait, us) so it's onwards and upwards to a non TM box, something with a true open source that's supported by both the manufacturer and the community.

I may utube mine, perhaps set it on the bird table and burn it or better still, just leave it plugged in and let it spontaneously combust like yours has..

Sorry guys, TM gifted me nothing free to test. I've paid good money for boxes and none of them work as advertised. As a paying customer, I'm entitled to my [impartial] opinion and anyone that thinks I'm giving TM a hard time, unlucky. I have to field complaints from others I provided these boxes to and all I can tell them is the s/w is pants.

2 successive boxes with the same pi$$ poor s/w and support have killed the brand as far as I (and many others I suspect) are concerned. Remove the outputs and the functions that don't work, stick them in a new box badged as a TM Solo / TM Twin for £69 / £99 respectively and have done with them

Anyway, regarding the 4D image, I'm actually finding it less stable and reliable than the 24/04/2012 ViX-based one! I've already had 2 or 3 errors that caused an automatic reboot, but it seems that they must have just been enigma reboots as they were done quite quickly. Nonetheless, they happened (the last some something to do with threading?). Also, I've noticed weird things with recordings. One of last night's recordings, which happened whilst tuned in to that tuner (to avoid the issues I've already mentioned about failed recordings!), seemed to record OK, but it wouldn't play back properly unless I get stopping and rewinding it. Basically, every minute or so, the sound would start breaking up, but if I rewound a bit (maybe even paused for a bit!) and played again, the bit that previously broke up would be OK again. This happened for the whole duration of a 30min recording. Must have taken over an hour to actually watch the thing! Initially, I was blaming my network (as I'm recording to a network drive), but if that was the problem, the recording would have been messed up completely to start with!

Added link to post 1 to file if anyone needs it, might as well add link here too lol

I hope I've caught you in time, mate, but my suggestion would be DON'T DO IT!!!

I feel that I've gone backwards with this image, compared to te 24/04/2012 IQ ViX. I'm even thinking of going back to that image, as at least I can work around some of its issues for now. But I'm also as frustrated as CGI121, and may soon decide to call it a day, sell up on eBay and go for something like the VU+ Ultimate.
