Right so it looks as though I might have another bash at sickbeard, it's been a while and the like since I used it and I don't think I got it working the last time (all though I did have an easynews account back then, which I don't have any more so I was hoping of using the torrents all though it's suggested to use a newsgroup)

Any way, I have the windows version installed and I'm just looking for some heads up.

I have managed to point it to the folders and the like and it's come back as half sort of found (I think) oh and also I can see that there's an ini file that you can edit with user names and passwords for newsgroups, am I really going to have to pay for one to make sickbeard work?

I've asked it to use torrents but it's not worky......

Cheers

so I'm having a look and I think I'll need to configure one, I do have demonoid, maybe I can use that...here's the error log.

2012-06-30 10:28:55.324000 SEARCHQUEUE-RSS-SEARCH :: No NZB/Torrent providers found or enabled in the sickbeard config. Please check your settings.

Right trying to get singned up to one of the torrent providers.....nudge wink, nudge.

Torrents are hit and miss, never used them myself and it's more geared towards nzb's, best to also use it in conjuction with sab.

I have a lightly different setup as its a QPKG package on my NAS so its' pretty straight forward install and setup.

yeah thanks for that mate, I'm OK I guess, just sickbeard grabbing the files would be good and that means i never have to miss an eppisode of atiques road show ever again, I was over on one of the forums and there's very little interest in "sickbeard" and "torrents" which is understandable if they are all hammering the newsgroups and the like.

Maybe that's why I gave up the last time.

I might sign up to a newsgroup......and have another go.

In the part you use the torrnets it asks for some hash key and the like that you can get from your own RSS feed. (still a bit confusing for me)

any way 07.54am Sunday! got to work, work, work!

I thought you were more a cash in the attic kind of guy..

Sick Beard - Usenet

tbh, torrents are a little old hat, I know it's been around for a while and is more prominent because of the whole gnutella network, publicity and the average Joe using them etc, but newsgroups have always been the preferred way amongst the community.

I pay £7 ($11) for my usenet sub

yeah thanks for that Exos, I see, I agree newsgroups are the way forward and have been for a while....(you haven't got any of them Cash in the Attic out takes have ya?..lol)

sickbeard is ideal if you have access to a free newsgroup server with low retention period like BT and virgin media customers have access to because it down loads the programs as they come out, you don't need long retention period.

I use my in conjunction with nzbmatrix (you need to pay one off $10), astraweb ($11 a month or $96 if you pay annually) and of course sabnzbd to do the downloads.

Thanks for that, So I can use with the virmi newsgroups, understand about retention, and you say nzbmatrix is a one of fee? $10..??

I need to all so look into that sabnzbd, so sickbeard goes off and grabs the file and then it's downloaded using sabnzbd?

Sounds like a plan.

Thanks mate for that.

what is sickbeard?

edit, i just googled it, handy looking app.. :)

yeah looks good doesn't it, if it goes off and gets all the episodes and the like of your favourite shows etc then happy days, I'll be setting it up soon me thinks, been down the Sickbeard and torrents and I apreciate that the best way is nzb's and newsgroups for maximum speed and the like, used to have "easy news" and that but after I joined up and then paid for it there was nothing to download! lol...typical eh?

I'll check out "nxbmatrix"

SABnzbd makes Usenet as simple and streamlined as possible by automating everything we can. All you have to do is add an .nzb. SABnzbd takes over from there, where it will be automatically downloaded, verified, repaired, extracted and filed away with zero human interaction

Can't really complain at that like can you...........

How Much Is A VIP Account?

A VIP Account Upgrade Subscription is £7 GBP, this is approximately $10 USD.

The subscription lasts for 10 years, there are no additional monthly costs to use our Usenet Indexer service. Its a one-off payment.

Yeah,

SABNZB is a utility that takes NZB index files and downloads them from newsgroup servers. its pretty simple to use and has a web based interface so can be accessed from pretty much anywhere if you want to.

VM newsgroup offering is 20 or 30 days retentions which is fine as sickbeard will queue up downloads as soon as they are on nzbmatrix which is normally next day after TV program has been broadcast.

So basically sickbeard monitors your download folders and TV backend database to check which episode should be on next. It then checks matrix if there is a matching posting and if there is then downloads the NZB index file and sends it to SABNZB to do the download. Don't worry about all the technicalities. Once setup its very slick and simple.

Didn't realise it was only tens years subscriptios.

I've been with them for while now and though their indexing is not 100%, they have all the common postings indexed. newzbin2 have better coverage but their indexing does not go as far (due to their legal issues they had a few years ago) and they cost more.

binsearch.net is free, has very good coverage of indexing level, has long retention but interface is very basic there is no API for directly accessing the data so does not work with 3rd party apps

Just so it's clear as Oneman's post references NzbMatrix and Astraweb (and they way i read it you would be mistaken to read it as the same thing)

One is an NZB Indexer, the other is the Newsgroup provider, so you need both.

The one off sub to nzbm@trix and the ongoing sub to a usenet service (Astr@web, Gig@news etc)

I see, one is an indexer and the other the host as to speak. (I thought £7 for 10 years was cheapo...ha)

any nzb's grabbed from nzbmatrix are all downloading using the server settings from virmin at the minute, how does that work then? (I've been meaning to ask that question for a while)

Used to have "easynews" and the like and that had a SSL login that you'd use with "Grabit" or "newsleach"

but today a few of the 20 allowed nzb's that you can grab for free from nzbmatrix are all as I say downloading from virmins servers? (or at least the gateway to the newsgroups) Is it because there on the free newsgroups as to speak, you know the nzb's from nzb matrix as that's just an "index"

In the same way, you just setup your news server settings/login in sickbeard, then you set which type of indexer with an API key (set from your nzb indexer profile/console)

yes, your downloading from virmin...currently, the difference is retention and completeness of the content. i.e virmin 30 days, astra 1500 days, "freenzb1", 10-30 days, nzbmatrix 1200-1500 days

kinda, what I meant was that if I grab a nzb from any where and grabit fires up then it downloads the said file but I only have the virmin newsgroup server settings in "grabit" if that makes sense....

there is another free server you can use, for anyone who ain't on vermin and don't like paying...
Just4Today.NET - Free Usenet

retention is shit though and you have to change the password every day... but free is free.. ;)
