My laptop says that my SD card need formatting however I have lots of pics and movies on it..can I recover them?

I'd try another reader and usb slot first.

If that does not work, try the following Free Micro SD card recovery software; recover photos from Micro SD card.

you could try putting the card in a camera and connecting to pc via usb cable...

No, not out of a camera, I used it to store d/loaded movies on.

I've tried different softwares but they won't recognise the card. Do you think I should actually format it then try to recover?

if its a micro sd in a sd adaptor i would guess its the adaptor thats at fault

It's a standard SD card (not micro) I've tried it in different laptops and also media players. it's either not recognised or in the media player 'Bad Card'
