If it were a desktop, I'd say yes. However, laptops are a bit different.
They can be a little fussy over the memory IC configuration on the SODIMM, so whilst one model might work with both 8 and 16 variants, another model from the same manufacturer may only work with one but not the other. On the off chance the base memory option is soldiered to the mainboard (more common on netbooks), and only have space for extra one SODIMM, you may* have to match the spec.
As such use the scan on the Crucial website: SDRAM, DDR2 and DDR RAM memory upgrades from Crucial.com
* Memory manufacturers do not recommend mixing speeds, timings and capacities, but usually it is ok to do so. Most systems will run at the settings of the lowest performing DIMM/SODIMM, but always check the settings in the BIOS after installing "pick-and-mix" RAM.
you dont say which 5100 it is as well as the crucial site this site i very usefull for identifying which mem is comatable.
