    Anybody have a tp-lINK 150Mbps Wireless N Access Point TL-WA701ND? Question plz

I'm looking at getting THIS to turn my existing Sagem Sky router into an N broadcaster. I note it has 1 Ethernet port but i want to know can I wire the connection from my sky router to this and use this for all wireless needs. All i can see is that this will output the signal via Ethernet i.e. as an xbox bridge with the original signal arriving at the box via wifi. I want the opposite, original signal wired from router then all output via wifi

    Hope that makes sense.

    Cheers in advance

Connect it with an ethernet to the Sly router, give it a static ip address, turn off dhcp, and then disable the wi-fi on your sly, set up WPA+PSK on it and away you go....

I'd maybe have a look for something that was 10/100/1000 though if I was spending any cash on a new access point.

and not only that but iit's only
Wireless speed up to 150Mbps makes it ideal for bandwidth consuming application.....not
you really want some thing with 300Mbps....save your money..... grab maybe your self a router for the same price and then you have the chance to turn it into a super duper FTP/NAS/SSH/router/server/access point/ blah blah blah if you wanna.

Along with it's NIC @ only 10/100 and it's 150Mbps wi fi then I'd really be moving on from it, how ever I have no idea what kind of "end user" you are so that may suffice, me, couldn't stand it, if I know it's out there then why haven't i got it! (if you get me...) I wouldn't waste money on it.....

...and also getting the newer gear can only fool proof you in the future, don't be left behind with a bottle neck some where.

    Cheers

    Dibbs.

Re: Anybody have a tp-lINK 150Mbps Wireless N Access Point TL-WA701ND? Question plz

Cheers for the prompt responses guys, exactly what I wanted to know although I am tempted by a 300mbps setup. So far as my needs, I have a QNAP TS210J directly into the router, this only has a 10/100 so i am limited there and my connection is 4.5mbps maximum, about 3mbps over the wifi. My biggest issue is coverage, i have the router under the stairs to keep the other half happy (out of sight out of mind) but the iPad regularly drops connection upstairs (10m as the crow flys) and ideally (although foolishly optimistically) I would like some coverage in the back garden so the Mrs can do her work in the sun.

Otherwise I have Zyxel PLA400s from the router to the QNAP and then a ZYxel PLA4225 for the TV/Sky box/360/XBMC - All that works flawlessly over 1080p to XBMC so no real need for improved performance there. Any d/l is done direct on the QNAP via usenet so again limited by processor speed but short of a bucket of cash, improving that is a no go.

If anybody has a recommendation for a decent 300mbps access point that wont break the bank. I can get the N router from Sky for £35 so want to keep it below that, otherwise my only need to be able to direct IP requests (internal and external) to the XBMC/Qnap so I can control Sab from my iphone.

    Cheers again

you can pick up a netgear "NetGear RangeMax 3500L 300 Mbps 4-Port Gigabit Wireless N Router" for around about £30.00 and stick "Tomato" "DD-WRT" or the like on it, and that has Gigabit ports along with 300Mbps - wi-fi.
or just sit with the Stock firmware on it before tinkering with all your settings, all though I feel that to get everything you want then you'd have to go CFW.

I do like them like (as you can tell...lol)

Sounds like the best bet is the N router from Sky if its only going to cost £35. Then just up port forwarding to control your Qnap and XBMC remotely.
