    Flying the Union Flag

It has a correct way and an incorrect way.

I just passed a car dealership and about half of the Union Flags were upside down. I might go back for a picture to expose them as the fake patriots they are.

How can you tell if the union flag (union jack) is upside down?

Basically the larger white "stripes" go on the right of the red diagonals.

I think that this was in error/ignorance rather than deliberate? I would point out their errors to them first.

    Re: Flying the Union Flag

They were moaning about this on Points of View earlier. Along the lines of " I was amazed to see them flying the flag upside down". The thing is, the people who write in to complain aren't really amazed at all. They know full well it happens a lot and they just like to moan about it

/Not saying that you're like that btw.

Edit:- I also like the way people are loathe to call it the Union Jack.

Simpler method, broad white against the pole should be at the top...

    Re: Flying the Union Flag

Each to their own, Union Jack for me, nothing 'amazes' me anymore apart from other peoples amazement

Note: apostrophe deliberately omitted to offend the pedants

It is often stated that the Union Flag should only be described as the Union Jack when flown in the bows of a warship, but this is a relatively recent idea. From early in its life the Admiralty itself frequently referred to the flag as the Union Jack, whatever its use, and in 1902 an Admiralty Circular announced that Their Lordships had decided that either name could be used officially. Such use was given Parliamentary approval in 1908 when it was stated that "the Union Jack should be regarded as the National flag".

    Re: Flying the Union Flag

Actually, I always knew it as a jack as well . Probably because we were a seafaring nation with lots of people living near ports.

We'll probably have to fly the EU flag soon anyway...
