    Time for new tuner?

Few days ago no channels were showing in my dm800hd, the info was there but no picture or sound so i rebooted, on reboot it said 'check tuner configuration'. Tried flashing several times and reboots, it would alternate between 'check tuner configuration' and showing no tuner present at all to saying 'tune failed' for every channel but the tuner A would show something there.

Yesterday I used dreamboxedit to upload new bouquets to the box and after reboot and lot of fiddling in channel list and what not, the channels started to work fine. Now again today im getting the 'check tuner configuration'.

The fact that I did get channels fine yesterday would mean my sat dish and cabling is ok, so does this mean I should invest in a new tuner? And to replace it, is it just a simple case of unscrewing or is soldering involved?

    Thanks!

    Re: Time for new tuner?

Check that tuner is plugged in correctly, in fact pull the tuner out, use a rubber/erase on the contact points to clean them and put it back to see if that makes a diff.

To get the tuner out of a 800hd you have to take the top off, then remove the entire back plate which is held in place with a number of screws, the hex protruding things on the RS232 and DVI connectors and by the nuts on the tuner itself.

    thanks
I took out the tuner and there was a ring of caked dirt over a bit of the tuner, cleaned it off, but still nothing. I can tell when im gonna get a tuner error as when I start the box, the writing on the lcd screen is bright, but then goes dull. If it stays bright then it seems there would be no tuner error.

I think I will buy a new replacement tuner, hopefully fix the issue otherwise I will end up paying more in total to get a new box

If the displays dulls then it could PSU related, do you have another to try?

    Re: Time for new tuner?

I replaced the tuner, and after several flash attempts and what not, finally got the box working no problem, but next day exact same problem of no tuner found. Would I be right in saying the box has gone to the crapper? If i would try to flash it would just go to 'no ca found' error after a reboot, and i would have to repair, it shouldn't keep doing that, so i'm beginning to think like all cloned chinese stuff it has become faulty.

Is there anything else I could try? Or should I just invest in a new box?

No I dont unfortunately, I tried other power supplies of other products but they do not work at all, even with similar electric output, etc.
