Wondering if anyone can help. I've ripped Some of my blu rays & DVD's and put onto a NAS drive so I can stream through the house. I am having prblems though with my PS3, Some movies play just fine while others Play for about a minute and then freeze with an error message saying the movie is protected by cinivea (code 1) Others play for about 20 mins and then go mute with the error message saying the movie is protected by cinevia and muted temporarily as a consequence (code 3). Can anyone help here? What is Cinevia and is there any solution or software to help me over come this bit of a problem. Thanks all

If you look at the wikipedia page then it says Cinavia is encoded into the digital audio only and can survive all ripping (my word not theirs) methods. Cinavia can also survive when you burn the films onto a DVD using convertctodvd or freemake. It's typically encoded into the DTS soundtrack, but can also be in all digital soundtracks if the studio wishes.

But the PS3 can overcome this problem. The PS3 will pass any sound out through the optical or HDMI connection to a reciever, and will not pass it though the Cinavia chips inside the PS3. In order to use this method you need to have an amp and speakers that will do the decoding the DTS sound.

If your PS3 is hacked with the Rebug CFW then there is an option to turn off Cinavia and still use the sound through the TV without amp & speakers.

Personally I use the first method because I have a surroundsound amp and have never had any problems with Cinavia at all.

The other method is to convert the sound into an LPCM analog stream instead of digital this also removes the cinavia as it can only survive in digital streams.

As of March 2012 known hardware players which can detect Cinavia watermarks include the PlayStation 3 (began with v3.10 System Software), as well as newer Blu-ray players. Cinavia is not detected in a DTS audio stream on PS3 (Must have Optical Out (S/PDIF) or HDMI, w/DTS receiver).

On June 5, 2009, the licensing agreements for AACS were finalized, which were updated to make Cinavia detection on commercial Blu-ray disc players a requirement.[1]

Cinavia was first introduced into the PlayStation 3 with the November 19, 2009 update of the system software to Version 3.10, as shown here: PlayStation 3 system software - Cinavia is detected in Mic recorded Audio, AC3, Stereo, Dolby Digital tracks, but it cannot be detected in DTS audio tracks with PS3, while streaming from a computer. As of June 2011 (Update 3.66), certain streamed video tracks enabled with Cinavia have been recognized via pc-ps3 streaming; this would be the aforementioned audio types, except DTS.
