I have posted this elsewhere to help a few guys, and was mentioned in one of the threads here. I'll re-post it if you haven't seen this yet.

Hello,

I'm from the U.S. where the OpenBox has become popular, but many have had a lnb voltage problem. If you are having this problem in the U.K. take a look at this fix I came up with.

I've traced the problem of low LNB voltage that causes the S-9 to work for a while then
drop off. There is a small part that looks like a disc capacitor near the tuner that actually
is a PTC thermistor that goes bad.

This part provides short circuit protection, but when bad it trips off at loading well under
the max rating of 500ma. The two bad ones I have found so far are marked M60 065.

On my own OpenBox that is still working, this part is larger and is marked JK60 065.
Digi-Key engineer crossed this to a "Little Fuse" brand part # 60R110XMR

This part can be changed from the top side of the board. Just snip the old one off.

Then tack solder the new one to the solder pads.

I then tested the S-9 by operating into a variable power resistor.

Ran it at 19v. @ 460ma. For two hours. The voltage and current held and the thermistor
ran cool.

It has been confirmed that this Digi-Key part will fix the S-10 with the same low voltage. It is located on the tuner board.

I see the part is available from Digi-Key/UK

PTC 1.10A 60V RESETTBLE KINK AMO - 60R110XMR

or from Digi-Key/US

Digi-Key - F1993CT-ND (Manufacturer - 60R110XMR)

Cheers

Nice post my friend im sure there are a few on here will find this usefull.
P.S. Welcome to the forum m8 hope you have a look around and stick around :)

many other older brands have a similar part. You could salvage the part from an old receiver collecting dust instead of buying new.Recycle and save.People with lnb problems seldom if ever monitor the current to the lnb,as they should.

the thermistor on the s10 is mounted on the tuner board,be careful when plugging back in.It's easy to remove the tuner but to replace you have to loosen all the mainboard screws and pull it forward.A tuner not plugged back in correctly will trigger the clone detection, even on a genuine s10.

Slug,

That is a good precaution.

Would it be possible to replace the part on the S-10 topside rather than pulling the tuner board? This works fine on the S-9 as there are topside solder pads.

As for pulling the part from an old receiver I can confirm that has been done by a few guys here in the US and worked ok.

From the UK site, am I right in thinking the part is 41p but delivery is £12 :(

the good one in my s10 is marked W60 065
other receiver brands/models have a P 60v RJ2N or CTC HA065
basically a 60volt 650ma device,so shop around.

I would like to stick around, the forum seems active with good help on it.
I could use some help editing my profile. I seem to locked out of several areas on the board. Is this because of my newbie status?

yes pixl for pms you need 10 posts I believe

edogg

Would this issue happen on an X3 HD? It worked for 4 days then lost signal. so annoying.

has anybody tried this... as iv got a s9 collecting dust that i could use in the bedroom if fixed cheers
