Hi guys, got an iphone 4s and reading about all this jail thing. Can I just ask, what's the benefits of doing this? If I do jailbreak it and want to put it back to original state, is it safe to do so?
What I should have asked was how easy is it to jailbreak?

you can return it to stick any time you like just flash the firmware.

jailbreaking is quite easy you just run a program, plenty of tutorials out there.

advantages include being able to customise the phone the way you want to.

And you don't need to pay for apps.

If your gonna jailbreak I'd do it very soon before the next firmware is released by apple.
