You aren't going to get a gaming system for that price, unless you're talking about flash games (but even flash has become too bloated for some systems to run smoothly). Both the systems you list should be suited to the other uses you mentioned.

I'm not familiar with Intel's Xeon range so I Googled it. There are no dual core 3.6GHz Xeon processors listed on this page: 64-bit Intel® Xeon® Processors with 800 MHz FSB, so I'd be a bit wary of the HP system - not least because the seller is another of those that try to trick people into thinking that you multiply the number of cores by the frequency of each core.

Personally I'd go for the Dell anyway. The Core 2 is a desktop processor rather than a server/workstation processor. However, no mention is made of a graphics card, so you may want to budget for one of those too. Any £25 PCI-e card should do for HTPC and streaming, but you're then looking at £150 in total, so you may want to consider the Zoostorm turner has suggested.

The advantage of that system is the G620's on die Intel HD 2000 graphics coprocessor.

In all likelyhood its a dual processor motherboard in the HP rather than dual core as the Irwindale Xeon processors are single core only.

They are pretty much P4 equivalent. It's also a business PC so the seller clearly has no idea what he's talking about.

The G450 is a waste of time, it struggled to run anything reasonable in its day either, it will also be AGP. G200 was OK, but don't expect it to stand up to anything thats thrown at it now.

put in HD video card (around £30) and either will be fine as a media streamer, basic web browser and basic gaming.

You could also get a SFF (small form factor) version of the Dell if you need something small and compact.

Useless for gaming. Because its such a low end card I really can't see why it has 2gb of ram.

If you want to play games then the lowest I'd go in the 5xxx series is a 5770 (I have a 5670 and the sims 3 is laggy lol)

It's fine for the HTCP side.

For gaming it won't be much good for anything more than Flash and OnLive.
