power supply to laptop
Hello all,
After repair my Amilo 1405 laptop which previously had only ever been operated from the mains supply will now run on battery only. This means that after a couple of hours or so of use the computer shuts down and the battery has to be charged up again.I had always supposed that when a laptop was plugged into a power socket the mains supply took over automatically.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? My temporary solution is to keep the battery on permanent charge so that it is always at !00% capacity but I am not sure if this is good practice and there seem to be cables trailing all over the place.
Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Cornelius

Huh. With the mails plugged in, it does nothing but charge the battery? It's supposed to run the lappy AND charge it both at once. Sounds like the power circuit (on the motherboard or sometimes a small separate board) is bad.

You should never keep your battery in your laptop, unless the laptop is switched off and your charging the battery. When using your laptop from the mains you should not have the battery in, as its just getting killed and over charged, you can kill a battery completely in a couple of month by leaving it your laptop all the time.
Take your battery out then try the power lead if your laptop does not come on, try a compatible charger before you test the AC jack socket on the lappy.

Older nickel based batteries were like that, but a modern lithium battery and laptop will not fry from being plugged in. The battery will fully charge, and stop when full - the power gets effectively shut off to the battery at that point - until it begins to discharge again. >>>>>> batterycare.net

Ah I never knew that, I had a new Dell laptop last year and never took the battery out, after three month the battery was dead and would'nt charge, just must of had a short life span, even though I never really used it without the mains.
