    Noob Question - PS3 'rebug'

    Hi all,

A mate is looking to get a PS3 and has seen one where the firmware is currently on 3.55 (I have some brief understanding of the significance of having a PS3 on 3.55) and has 'rebug'.

Would someone care to explain what a 'rebug' is?

Also this particular PS3 is a slim version, am I right in thinking that it has likely to have been flashed with an earlier firmware that it originally left the factory with?

    Thanks for any replies.

Rebug is a custom firmware mate. It allows you to play backup games from the HDD. It's also essentially a "jailbreak" so developers can run their homebrew on it (their own programs). It's a great thing to have, and the dev which made a good custom firmware for 3.55, is also trying to bring us a jailbreak for 3.73 and 4.00. If he can get it at a good price then it's a good'n!

Thanks for the reply. I thought that it might be something along those lines.

It's a PS3 slim with either a 160GB or a 250GB HDD (I can't remember which now) and I think that he was offered it for £150. I thought that it was a bit expensive considering that a new 160GB can be picked up for £160, but if it has 'benefits', maybe it isn't a bad deal.

The next thing, he'll asking me for help in getting the games onto the HDD........
