with my hero i play the mp3 and then press menu and select set as ringtone on my galaxy tab put the mp3 in the folder called ringtones and then settings >> sound incoming calls phone ringtone select the mp3 so one of those should work for the ace

If edogg's suggestions don't sort you out try Ringdroid from the Market, it'll do what you want.
