hiya, been trying to help a friend with his pc for quite a while now and we arent getting anywhere, systoms are it keeps blue screening during boot up when the pc is cold, by cold i mean its been turned off for a fair few hours, like he turns it off over night and tries booting it up in the morning it will bluescreen, but then it will be fine for the rest of the day unless he went on it at half 7 in the morning, turned it off and left it until 5pm before he booted it up again then it would bluescreen so it does have to be turned off for fair few hours, ive formatted it for him a few times, we have tried different hard drives, tried taking memory out and leaving one stick in, then swapping them over and trying them in different slots etc, ive found his minidump files which is meant to be able to tell you whats up with it but i dont understand the errors at all and neither does my friend, can anyone see the attached minidump files to help diagnos whats wrong with his pc ? thanks
ive tried that whocrashed program and it lead me to beleive it was the hard drive but ive tried 3 different hard drives and the same thing happens, all freshly formatted with a fresh installation of windows on all 3, its a nightmare really cant figure out what it is,
i could try the linux cd, is that so it boots into linux instead of windows to see if it still bluescreens ?
what makes you think it could be the psu ? could be i really dont have a clue on this one, thanks
I was also thinking PSU, could be ok after it has had power into it for a while which would explain why it only does it in the morning when cold, can you get hold of an alternative PSU of the correct rating to try?
Might not be the PSU but least it will eliminate the problem.
i tried that memtest, did the one where you burn it to disk and boot the pc up with disk in and it boots up into memtest, did 8 or 9 passes it was and all was ok, with memory ive also tried swapping them about, unplugging one and leaving one plugged in, then trying that 1 in the other slot and then doing same with the other stick of memory as its got 2 x 2g sticks,
think we should be able to get a power supply unit from somewhere, so il try that and see how it goes and report back, thanks
