thats right and the one's that dont just drive without or with a dodgy one.
I think the system is best left alone, and maybe tax fuel less if they care.

stupid idea if you ask me theres lots of people that would drive on 3 wheels if they could get away with it legaly , an example ........ you are not mechanicaly minded and you go for mot fails on lets say brakes.
now the brakes feel fine for the driver but for instance the break pipe is coroded, would that coroded pipe last another 12 months? well thats just chance i reckon , mot fails non mechanical driver has to get it fixed to be legal . result .
same scenario but 2 year mot = 12 months in non mechanical driver doesnt know he has a coroded break pipe 14 months in hits breaks and bam nothing , worse case scenario he stops by hitting a kid and then a car.
keep 12 months to dangerous otherwise.

we had to get are private hire cars tested every six months.
think we still have the best record for the car's safty wise than any other district. we used to moan b-cos every were else was 12months.
as they say better safe than sorry.
think its stupid if they make it any longer than 1nc a yr at the least

I'm an mot tester, and the state some cars come back in after 12 months is amazing, some people apply no maintanence whatsoever throughout the year, only having the bare minimum done to get the cars mot'd in the first place

As said its down to the individual as to if they service thier car or not. What suprises me is "and Ive seen it" you take your car to one garage for an MOT and they pass/fail it for certain things. You then go elsewhere and they pass/fail for completely different things this is for the same years mot - crazy.
As for lowering costs - put petrol prices/tax up and do away with road tax. Then the more you drive/use the roads the more you pay. Isnt that fairer?

It's always up to the individual to maintain their car - which I know a lot of people neglect but at least an MOT is some kind of standard to aim for even if it is only once a year. I've been to other countries and seen top end BMWs driving around with wheels held on with not much more than only a couple of wheel nuts and no lights.

Re: MoTs
I dont have a problem with 12 monthly mot's,what i have a problem with is garages etc having the ability to tell you "what is wrong " with your car,and charging what they feel fit. Your average motorist has no idea if what they are being told is true or not,and the expense of having it checked out puts almost everyone off taking it any further. In my opinion it should be a test carried out by non profit organization,ie gov dept, charging the going rate, therfore maintaining safety standards.
My sister recently had an mot done at a well known fast fit tyre company while her hubby was away,at a cost of almost £850,unknown to her he had already had a quote for under £300,now who are you meant to trust ?
by taking the test away from the people who benefit from doing the work at least you feel more in control, much better being able to tell your garage what needs done and not them telling you what needs done.
Just my thought !!

Ur best bet is to shop around and kwik fit are known to rob people

Re: MoTs
It aint gonna happen, VOSA dont want it, its those knobs in Europe trying to push it through, think how many garages would close that rely on mots coming through!
Had an 04 clio in yesterday, failed on a shit load of stuff & was running like a dog! After doing the repairs I asked her when was the last time she had it serviced? "Had it since new and its never been serviced, if it aint broke why mess?" she said!
You wouldnt believe how many people think the mot is a service and thats all they need to do with a car!
