Apple's iPad named 'Gadget of the Year'

Apple's iPad named 'Gadget of the Year' - Yahoo! India News

London, Oct 12 (ANI): Apple's iPad has been named Gadget of the Year at the technology grant equivalent of the Oscars.

The US electronics giant bagged five top gongs at the T3 Gadget Awards 2010 in London, reports the Sun.

The ten-inch touchscreen tablet computer was also Innovation of the Year, while the iPhone 4 won Commuter Gadget.

The MacBook Pro laptop was Best Computer and the Apple Store was Best Retailer.

But Apple were pipped as Best Technology Brand by mobile phone rivals HTC, whose Desire handset also won Phone of the Year.

T3 magazine editor Luke Peters said more than 750,000 people voted in 19 categories - showing "how passionate consumers have become about technology". (ANI)

i bought a ipad on day of release, had it about a month then got rid, as a machine it was fantastic, the screen and touch sensitivity were second to none, but i found myself more using my laptop than the ipad, so couldn't justify keeping it for just games and apps alone, so bought myself a plasma instead lol!

Nice one thats the reason why I am not tempted by these as I have no real use for them when I have my laptops lol

yip im the same, couldn't live without my lappy now!

i never understood the point of the ipad. the only reason i could see them be hand was like when i saw jake humphrays useing it for short notes while presenting f1. for everything else a lappy seems the better option as you guys have said above. as for gadget of the year my vote would have gone to any updateable dev boardused for psbreak lol

haha i totally agree mate, certainly value for money compared to the ipad, lol!

I have a couple of lappys and a netbook but not used any of them since getting my iPad. Long and short of it, when I'm not at the desktop PC I'm either in bed or on the sofa. Advantages of an iPad over laptop in these situations are IMO:

No noisy fans
No heat
No clacking keys
No obtrusive (and distracting for anyone else in the room/bed!) open lid/screen

If I need to access the desktop PC to do anything, I just remote in from the iPad.

Once you see the iPad as an alternative for certain situations and not a whole replacement it begins to make more sense.
In terms of the T3 award, it is easily & by far the best gadget released this year.

Well on my bed or sofa I use my netbook, rest of the house a notebook and at work a desktop :) all good

Exactly. It's an alternative.
And a damn fine one too. ;)

Yep its a alternative but one that a few of us can live without as our laptops do exactly what is needed or required without the need for a device like this. Well I would probably want one if I never really use a PC at home and maybe just like a browse every now and then or a quick read or watch a movie but I can do all that and more on my lappies

Of course. I don't think anyone said otherwise mate did they. It was just named gadget of the year that's all. Approx 8 million sold so far.

Like I said, it's not a replacement so there's no need for it at all.
Just the same as some will say there's no need for a PS3 when you have an Xbox or no need for a Mac when you have a PC or even a Nokia whan you have a Samsung?
It's just an alternative that some think is better than others do.

That said, surfing, watching a HD movie on an iPad or reading an eBook is pretty damn close to perfect and I'd have it over a netbook any day. It's an expensive gadget, but more than a toy to me and beats a netbook in many ways. I do a bit of travelling and couldn't get 8+ hours out of a netbook battery. In fact my Acer is so shit I'd likely get a movie out of it and It'd be gone. :proud:

I did not mean anything by my comment just that it is not suitable for most of us who like to use our computers in many ways. It would be good for those who want it for reading, watching movies etc. However out of my sammy netbook I get 8 hours lol :)

I see that mate. It's just I see a constant comparison between the two and well, they're two different things for two different purposes really - but do similar things. Like comparing a knife and a spoon.

8 hours from a netbook battery?
What is it - surely not the proprietary one?

Yep I got I think it is a 6 cell not sure maybe bigger, yes the normal one that comes with it is crap and I think that one is a 4 cell thats lasts if you lucky 2-3 hours

As you rightly stated it is comparing 2 different things for different purposes and different personal uses :)

Ah.
I remember chewing over the idea of bigger cell batteries for my AAO as well as upgrading the wi-fi card and memory. I actually only did the memory upgrade and made it dual-boot and never bothered with anything else.

Yep first thing I made sure to do was upgrade the ram, I bought it with the big battery for this reason.

got one...wore the t shirt ...sold it .
does all sorts of stuff that my laptop does miles better .
its a great gadget , but thats all it is .

Jammy bastard.

Never got a t-shirt with mine.
